I posted this over at xda let me know if it helps anyone...

I used to have this issue when my Touch was checking my email once every hour. After a hard reset and changing to manual email sync the problem has been eliminated.

Keep in mind there is still an issue when the battery drops below 30% where the phone will not wake up for notifications. A charge and soft reset will fix this issue.

I also believe its rom related.
I've had my phone go into standby mode when on the charger, and miss my alarms, calls, and txt msg.
I've had it go into standby mode, while the phone sat on my desk.
I've done the hard reset and the soft reset, and it seems to help for a few days, and then it starts happening again.
HTC tech support, says its a known issue and are working on an update for this. While The telus data support department also says its a known issue and to bring it to the store where it was purchase, and see if they can fix it, or have it exchanged. I go into the store, they do a soft reset, and call my phone while in standyby and it wakes up for the next couple of days.

Here's a new thought, an attempt to find correlation between everyone having this issue:

How many of you who are experiencing this problem have dropped their phone on something hard (like the sidewalk, etc.) Or have received it in the mail with a noticeable damage to the box?

well, because we know there is an issue with the battery level. And we know that dropping the phone or jarring the battery causes battery damage, or causes it to not hold a charge as well (common with all Lithium Ion batteries). So there is a link there that dropping the phone could cause increased chances of having this problem.

Also the obvious incidentals of damaging poorly constructed points on the pcb or loosening sockets on the pcb, creating the potential for an intermittent problem. Software/Rom problems don't usually manifest as intermittent problems. Either something is always broke or its not. And they can usually be debugged and are repeatable. There is another variable here that needs to be found. And if it is not software/rom/hacks/etc, then the next logical conclusion would be that the variable is physical. Seeing how not everyone experiences this problem, it can be shown that the problem is caused by an uncommon occurrance. So an uncommon physical occurrence, ie. physical or thermal shock.

#1 we dont know there is an issue with the battery level
#2 The problem is not shown to be caused by an uncommon occurance, we are on page 22 of this thread
#3 I think it is software/rom/radio. Running s2u2, and not letting the phone go into sleep has fixed tjhe problem for me, albeit with the sacrifice of some battery life

Does anyone that has the problem always keep their activesync off?

I was having trouble this past weekend with missing calls, so I did a hard reset and that seems to have fixed the problem. I noticed that I forgot to change the setting to keep activesync from being on all the time after the reset. I'm going to leave it on for now (I don't want to change anything now that it wakes properly).

I've had it happen once since I bought my phone back in december. I hadn't soft-reset my phone for like a month and a half...

Having the same problem. I haven't even customized my phone. Sometimes it even happens when i'm wearing my blue tooth. This is really frustrating.

It seems to be device specific. Mine did it long before I modded it and nothing has happened since I got it swapped. I would advise taking it in to the store and having them order you a new one if you have insurance. If not I would go through HTC to get it warrantee'd.

Have you tried looking at the following registry setting?

HKEY_Current_User\ControlPanel\Notifications\Phone \sleep = 0 ??

If this is set to 1, then your phone will goto sleep.

I had the same issue, been awhile, but this is what I think I think I did. :)

This keeps the phone from shutting off on a long phone call, it could also shut off the radio if your battery was low?

My phone now cannot wake up for incoming calls/sms most of the time. This sh*t now is almost useless as a phone. I'm with stock rom, and I didn't install a lot of programs, just spb backup, memaid etc.

My manufacture date is January 18 2008.

This is the 2nd Touch I have had, the first one was replaced by Sprint for another reason. I didn't have this issue with the first one, and did not have this issue until this week with this one. I've been using this phone for just about a month.

I have only added:
HTC Home Customizer
gcalc
OneNote Mobile

With the previous phone I had my email checking automatically at specific intervals. Same with this phone that I have had since late February.

I do have attachments to emails storing to an SD card, as well as having OneNote mobile installed on the card instead of the device.

I tried the fix posted that suggested I uncheck advanced power options and take the battery out. This did not fix the problem.

If the screen is not on, at this point, the phone will not ring or vibrate, calls are sent straight to VM, nor do I recieve any notifications for txt or email msgs, whether the battery is at 30% or 90%. I have sat today and read this entire thread and can't figure out what I should do next, other than float test the Touch.

Have you tride to go to Start/settings/system/keylock/
then mark [ O Do not lock buttons ]
I was told by a tec. that woud do it it souds not right but it works..

I havent read through this whole thread, but I am having a porblem somewhat like this. My problem is that my phone sometimes wont download the text. Someone sends me a text and the phone will wake up, but then i never get the text. And its like it knows someone sent me a text and it starts to wake up, but then I dont get the text and it kinda makes me mad because then I miss a bunch of texts...

I haven't had the phone not waking from sleep problem for at least 3 months, then last week for some reason it started happening again. I NEVER thought that low battery had anything to do with this. It can occur when the battery is at 20% or 100%.

Funny thing though, it seems to wake for text.... like thats all I need it to do- imagine that! Some people believed it was due to 3rd party software- but this occurs wih stock phones and phones loaded to the teeth with apps.

IMHO, I believe the problem to be HTC related. It happened with the PPC-6700, Mogul (6800), Touch (6900?)... and I don't know how many others; these are just the ones I know for Sprint.

I know I am completely tired of missing calls and constantly having to explain the flaws of a $600 phone..... in its current state- its worthless!

First three weeks no issues with waking up. Last few weeks issuses a lot. Even with hard reset, and no installation. Currently returning it.

I am a physician and missed a patient desperately trying to get ahold of me last night so since then I have literally been tied to my phone today. Anyway my problem is 2 fold as it sounds like most are. If it drops below 30% power, it seems to not ring until soft reset. If I have a notification on the screen (SMS, voicemail, notification) I get no ring. To fix this, I have notifications turned off universally on the phone as well as the registry change below and have tried all the scenarios I read here and mine is working perfectly. I don't know if there is a main thread that I am missing so i apologize if someone has already figured a fix.

And just in case anyone new to this has the Dword versus Decimal/Hex value thing confused (have seen it go unanswered in threads before), the above text is if you are using a .reg file (or .cab in another format) to change your registry. If you enter it straight in as a Dword value directly in the registry it is of value " 1 " without the quotations as a decimal value. Hope this helps someone.

Edit: Forgot that I also turned off the quick menu under settings---> Today -----> Items as well as the direct link I had to text messages on the Today window.

Tested again just now and(sent myself a ton of texts with screen off), screen came on then went back off per battery / backlight settings as I want it to. Then alarms went off times 3 with power lower than 20%.

i just got off the phone with sprint support, my support gal at least admitted there was a problem and there is no fox yet, except keep soft reseting the phone. When I asked for an eta for a fix she said she had no idea, see then also commented on a lot of the pda phones out there are having problems. I have a new touch I got last week. no mods. THe only thing that seems to help, not sure it works is turn of the battery power save mode.
I don't know. I am thinking about activating my old standard phone until there is a fix posted. It's really to bad. The nly reason I got the phone was because when sprint announced the 99.95 everything plan, I said ok time to get a pda.

i didnt read the whole thread but i had this problem.

go to start>settings>connections>beam>UNcheck "recieve all incoming beams"

this should help...i cant recall but i think this fixes the problem completely

you will need to turn "recieve all incoming beams" bak on ONLY when u are about to bluetooth something to your phone...then turn it bak off.

I've had this problem occur 3 times since I've had the phone (3.25 months). It has happened at various battery levels. I disabled the quick menu initially, and I don't have a lot of third party apps. I check my email manually. Perhaps that is why I don't have this occur very often. My phone has never frozen up on me, and I never need to soft reset it, just once for a very minor issue! Overall, the phone has worked flawlessly, except for the 3 missed calls. It runs and lasts much longer and better by far than my 6700. I'm not a power user, but I do use it often, and I get 5 1/2 to 7 days per charge, and I'm thrilled with that! So far, I can live with the occasional missed call, as it seems to fix itself, but I do hope they fix it in the very overdue REV A/GPS update. Then, the phone will be just about perfect.

I'm trying to mentally prepare myself as I type to deal with Sprint's lousy customer service to get them to send me a new phone. I have had it for a month and a half and have had all the problems people speak of in this thread. I have done over 4 hard resets and soft resets almost every other day! ](*,)

If you have a wireless toyz by you, just go there, they replaced mine very quickly, without any hassle and for free. I did have TEP though.

That is what HTC said to do when I called (uncheck turn off device in xx boxes)

I've never missed a call/text/voice mail alert, but I used to have the problem with my Touch not wanting to wake up - starting on the second or third day I had it.

I read on a thread to change the Today settings -

Start -> Settings -> Personal Tab -> Items Tab -> uncheck Today timeout box.

This solved the "not wanting to wake up" issue...and as mentioned, I've never missed a call or text.

I don't know if these problems are related, but it seems to be about "waking up"...?

My Touch also had the not waking up problem, I also tried this (after a hard reset) and it hasnt done it since. I dont know if it was the hard reset or unchecking that option or combination of both but its been over a month now and I havent had any problems.

I have had my Touch for 2 days and have had this happen... I got home and my wife said she called me a hour ago.. I took out my Touch and pressed the power button to wake it up.. It flashed the incoming call picture and said my wife had just called that moment. Then I had a notification of a missed call.. This was a stock Touch with nothing added.. I had already unchecked all of the HTC today stuff.. the time out box was still checked.. The battery was at atleast 80%. I have unchecked the timeout box and hope this fixes the problem. A phone that doesnt answer is a paper weight

I'm on my 3rd Touch in 30 days after having the "not waking up" issue to freezing on incoming calls (1st phone) to not vibrating when phone is set to vibrate (2nd phone).

So far, I haven't had any issues, and I've had this one for at least 2 weeks now.

The one good thing that came from having to do the exchanges is I have 2 extra SD cards and the last store just gave me the entire box instead of just swapping the phone so I have an extra everything else.

Hey everyone its not anything wrong with the phone, its wm6 itself, i knnow because microsoft is trying to fix this issue on all phones with wm6 will eventually start having this problem i had the 6800 (mogul) & now the touch and having the same issues, what i did was set my backlight not to cut off & set the power to always stay on.

This is weird.I never have had this issue.I have a Touch with wm6.1.Its the stock sprint rom with 6.1

I had a friend that had the same problem and Sprint told him that you have to turn the phone off every night (press and hold the power button while the screen is lit until it comes up with a warning message, press yes) and it will stop this problem. I do this every night and have never had a problem.

I called the local Sprint Hardware repair center and the rep i talked to has the HTC Touch. He said "Before you put the phone in your pocket, make sure you quit all running apps via task manager, and every two weeks you should perform a hard reset." The rep said he does those things, and it works flawlessly ... he even said that it is "normal performance maintenance". I call B.S. on this! I don't think hard resetting a pda phone is required unless you mess up your phone or can't get it to function. Doesn't sound like "normal maintenance" to me.

Any thoughts???
