Touch not waking up from Sleep Mode for Calls and TXT

Is anyone else having this problem?....

Periodicly my Touch does not wake up (turn on) for calls and text messages so I miss them.

Installed apps:
HTC Home Customizer (only to enable the music player tab and point it to Audio Manager)
HTC Audio Manager
Resco Explorer with Today Plugin
OZ Messaging (comes with phone)
SK Tools

If anyone can help me it would be greatly appreciated!!!

shifty50 11-15-2007 02:15 PM

my mogul did that all the time...that was the major reason for swapping for the touch. have you done any registry tweaking? i noticed after doing the cache timeout registry hack mine stopped waking up...had to hard reset

emarketingdept 11-15-2007 07:53 PM

I used SKTools to disable the send text message popup........

emarketingdept 11-15-2007 08:00 PM

Someone at XDA said it could be the home customizer....

It seems to only happen when the battery is low for whatever that's worth.....

I have no problem uninstalling the Home Customizer but does anyone know I way to enable the music tab without it?....

I was thinking it could also have something to do with the Resco Explorer Today plugin (or app itself) as my wife has a touch with the home customizer app and dosen't seem to be having any issues......

Katahdin 11-15-2007 08:47 PM

I have also experienced this problem 2-3 times already and had to reset the phone.

Cicatrize 11-15-2007 09:49 PM

pretty sure it's Home Customizer. I never had that problem before I installed it, now I do.

Hoshtaylor 11-15-2007 11:55 PM

I noticed this same problem today on my Touch.

APPS Installed:

HTC Touch Home Plugin
Google
Resco
SPB Backup
Sprint TV

Any ideas....???

shifty50 11-16-2007 12:50 AM

i am not sure its the Home customizer...i didn't use it on my mogul but had the problem all the time with it...and i just took my phone off the charger a few hours, took a nap and put it next to me for a wake up call and sure enough didn't ring through til i "woke" the phone up all the sudden a call comes through as well as three text msgs. i put it back to sleep and missed another call within 25-30 mins...THIS SUCKS!!!

mswlogo 11-16-2007 01:23 AM

Try shutting off the HTC Quick Menu (Start -> Settings -> Task Manager -> Button -> Uncheck Quick Menu on Today). And reboot.

I'm curious if that helps.

adrian2pm 11-16-2007 01:41 AM

having the same problem here . mised a lot of important calls

emarketingdept 11-16-2007 02:10 AM

What apps are you the suspect Touches? Are you also only seeing this when the battery is low? (-30%)

This is a REAL problem..... It started happening to my wifes touch today... I don't think she ever let the battery get low so thats why I never saw it happen.....

mswlogo 11-16-2007 10:42 AM

I didn't try to correlate battery being low or not. It even was flakey on me after a fresh boot and put on charger over night and next morning it was locked up.

I suspect it's the Quick Menu. But I could be wrong. It's worth a shot. See post above how to shut it off.

It may be it throttles the CPU back on low battery.

Mine was doing the same thing i did a soft reset and it worked. It happened for the past two days, but is has been fine since yesterday 11/15/07. Maybe it was sprint?

it happened to me yesterday and did it again 2 hours ago. its not sprint

emarketingdept 11-16-2007 12:10 PM

Just to confirm with everyone regarding this problem..... The bug is that the phone will not notify you when it's sleeping and you get a call or TXT and when you manually press the power you get (most or all) of the notifactions of misses calls/TXT/VoiceMail. This in not about the phone "locking up" and forcing you to soft reset to get it to wake.

Can everyone who is experiencing the missed notifaction bug please list the apps and reg tweaks the have on their Sprint Touch (not GSM) and let's see if there is any common denominator?

I hope we can fix this as it renders the phone almost useless....... BTW I had similar problems on my Mogul hence why I swapped it......

adrian2pm 11-16-2007 12:41 PM

htc customiser
flash video bundle
tcpmp
picsel
omega one calculator
pocket cm keyboard
sprint v
shape im+
oz instant messaging

tweks:
battery tweak
color battery icon on the bottom of the screen
adjusted the screen sensitivity

sonicbo0m 11-16-2007 01:01 PM

Same thing happened to me yesterday, 11/15/07, and I soft reset and so far so good.
All I have right now is:
Pocket CM
MMS

emarketingdept 11-16-2007 01:49 PM

I just did a hard reset on my Touch and I will keep it like that for a few days to see if HTC Home Customizer or any other 3rd party apps or tweaks caused the issue.... I will keep everyone posted......

Mizono 11-16-2007 02:48 PM

Hey guys thought id make this my first post and chime in on this. Just for an idea on my credentials I am a Sprint Tier 2 Advanced Tech. We have seen similar issues on the mogul relating to events and alarms not going off while the device was asleep or charging. However the ROM update cleared that up. For the touch we havent seen this BUT the first thing I always look at and thats been mentioned is what additional software do you have. If possible sync your device, hard reset it and test with a friend. try phone calls then text messages. if all is good, pick a piece of software to load and test again. Takes some time but it will give a clear idea if it is the software and what one it is.

how do you hard reset the touch

shifty50 11-16-2007 04:49 PM

This was a major problem on my mogul and the main reason i went with a touch. For the first week or so, I didn't have this issue even once. Then the other day it started happening so I did a hard reset (Clear Storage under Settings --> System tab) and it happens just about every time the phone goes to sleep. It can be 15 minutes and nothing will come through til I press the power button.

Programs:
LED Killer 3.1
UI Tweaker
HTC Home Customizer
PCM Keyboard .11b -- with reg tweak
PCM Contacts .15
Pocket RAR 3.71
HTC Audio Manager 1.02.919713
Spb ELF Calc skin
Vicsoft ClearTemp
Arcsoft MMS
Live Search
Sprint TV
OnDemand

REG Tweaks:
in call tones disabled
SMS Sent disabled

emarketingdept 11-16-2007 05:12 PM

Seems to be alot of people who have this issue have the HTC Home Customizer so that could be the issue...... This morning I hard resetted my phone (for the person who asked its pressing the talk and end button at the same time while pressing the reset with the stylus) For my wife and I it only seemed to happen went the phone got below 30% battery so I was thinking it had to do with the low battery notifaction and thus being a WM6 issue like my mogul.

Let's keep this post alive and come up with a resolution!

bobblah 11-16-2007 06:03 PM

I've noticed it whenever I have a notification present on the phone, specifically voice mail and text, or just vm with no text also. If I have a waiting message, and just dismiss it, the phone won't wake up for future events, calls, emails, or new text

emarketingdept 11-16-2007 06:13 PM

It's official.... Touches suck (or definately need an update)...... I have a 100% stock Touch (as of this morning) and once the battery got below 30% it stopped ringing or notifying of any Text/Voicemail unless I manually pressed the power button...... It must be the ROM or WM6.......

mswlogo 11-16-2007 06:36 PM

Ok, can you try this. I have not had any issues and I don't know what fixed it. But it may also be luck.

Shut off Cube (registry), Shutoff HTC Home and Sprint Home, Shut off Large Start Menu (In Settings), Shutoff HTC Quick Menu (Settings Task Manager). And shut off TocuhFlo Scrolling (I think that was in Registry).

It's probably only one of these but I had lockups with an almost stock Touch and shut these off and for week it's been really solid. I suspected it was Quick Menu but perhaps it wasn't.

mswlogo 11-16-2007 06:37 PM

And Kudos to Sprint Teir 2 reading this thread, that's awesome !!

Musicman247 11-16-2007 06:47 PM

Could someone please try this? It worked for me with my Mogul. I'm not around my charger, otherwise I'd try it.

1) Press the power button to wake up the device.
2) Plug device into power adapter.
3) Wait until the device recognizes it's plugged in.
4) Press the power button to put the device to sleep.
5) Wait for alarm or phone call/txt message

I had been doing this with my Mogul and it's worked fine. I haven't noticed anything wrong with the Touch yet, but I've been having issues with Sprint the past couple of days.

Let us know if this works.

mswlogo 11-16-2007 06:54 PM

What are folks using for SD Cards and are any applications trying to access it for data that are running while a sleep. Email etc.

When my mogul failed if I forced it to sleep with power button the problem would never happen if I set an alarm to go off within a few minutes. It always had to fail over night. Like it had to transition to Full Battery or something had to happen on sprint network overnight for it to fail in the morning.

I don't think the issue described here is the same as the mogul. For one folks are complaining of not getting calls and messages during the day while not on the charger.

emarketingdept 11-16-2007 07:09 PM

More news!!!.....

After calling sprint tech support talking to them.... Being escalated to high level support being told there are no known issues and that I should take it to a repair center, repair center saying my phone is fine but I could exchange it since I was under my 30 days. I called HTC.......... Are you ready for this!!!

HTC told me that all of their phones are set to stop waking to ring once the battery is less than 30% in an effort to conserve power! I did also tell him that once this issue starts if I soft reset the phone it will start to ring again....... He said it could be a bug in the rom and sent it up to the software techs..... Can anyone else confirm with their 100% stock phone that after the battery reaches 30% it stops waking to ring?

I did a hard reset this morning and sure enough once the battery got lower it stopped ringing.... I think it's insane they would make a phone that would stop ringing when there is 30% left of battery.... 10% maybe....... but 30%!?!?!

Again this is not an issue with the phone "locking" up but not ringing when the battery is less than 30%

mswlogo 11-16-2007 07:17 PM

Cool, I rarely let my phone go below 30%. I have chargers everywhere :-)

Good find and thanks !!!

Known issues are so much better than mysteries.

I wonder if the trigger point is in the registry.

I tried clearing all notifications (voicemail, emails, etc.) Still missed calls!!!

Battery can be 100%, but still miss calls. I just left to take my dog for a walk...When I get home I wake the phone up to a missed call and three new voicemails...BATTERY AT 50% ?!?!?!

THIS IS SOOOO LAME!!!!

Sounds like two different issues. Some folks on mogul and touch run into the phone not ringing before the caller gives up. You might try setting the Slot Cycle Index.

Here is a thread discussing how.

mine was set to 1 and still missed calls and emails.

boxermansr 11-16-2007 09:47 PM

Mine did this for the first time this morning. Was waiting on a call around 630am, never came. Picked up my phone and hit the power button. The clock said 410am (then a few seconds later, jumped up to 701am [which was what time it was]), then I got a missed call notification, and voicemail (missed call said it came in at 430am, even though it really came in about 630 as it should have).

Haven't had the problem since, and I hope I don't again.

adrian2pm 11-16-2007 10:09 PM

did i make a mistake trading my mogul for the TOUCH? this is a serious problem.

emarketingdept 11-17-2007 03:28 AM

What I am wondering is why other people aren't complaining (both on this forum and to Sprint).... I don't think I have a defective phone (let alone two of them, both me and my wife)..... Sprint is telling me I can do a 30 day exchange, the HTC CS rep is telling me this is how they make the phone to stop ringing below 30% battery. I do only have this issue when battery drops below 30% for sure and only then. I did some testing today, let the battery get low, call myself and the phone didn't ring.... Then I pluged in the charger for no more than 10 sec and it woke up and rang perfectly.... Removed the charger called again and it didn't ring.... Then I soft reset and it it rang fine until the phone completely died..... I wish I could get a definite answer as to why it's doing this.... HTC claimed it's a feature, I feel like it's a "bug" and I wonder if me and my wife just have a bad batch of touches..... If every touch stops ringing below 30% battery life then I would think there would be more people upset and calling sprint....

EtherealRemnant 11-17-2007 04:23 AM

Its a bug.

Mine still works because I got a call at 5% last night.

alagares 11-17-2007 05:28 AM

like emarketingdept is saying, I'm pretty sure this issue doesn't have to the deal with added software, mine was brand new with only the picture mail hack installed and lexi-comp. I don't remember how was my battery level at that time, but my girlfriend was really angry with my lame excuse.

Has anyone experienced this after manually turning off Data Connection in the Comm Manager?

I did one soft reset and the issue went away : )

meatlocker 11-17-2007 08:25 AM

This problem is not across the board, as my unit does not seem to behave like this. I have craploads of software (including the customizer) on my phone and tested for this issue last night and the phone worked as it should. At 20%, I put the phone to sleep and waited 5 minutes. I then called myself from another phone and it woke up and rang. Additionally I sent myself a text after the phone went back to sleep, and it woke up for the notification at 20%.
I'm not sure what HTC is telling people "30%" for, as this is obviously not the case for all of the units and would be a seriously moronic policy for power management.
