So I don't think its a good idea to tell them you have an alltell device when its actually a sprint =)
I am going to keep trying, ive called 6 times already, my patience is waning. Almost ready to jump ship to a GSM provider so I don't have these stupid hassles with devices.
If at first you don't succeed...

Actually I wouldn't say it is an Alltel phone. They can verify that. Tell them it is fron US Cellular as it seems like Sprint is really the only carrier they insist on acting retarded about.

I understand that, but I'm not asking for help or even how to do it. I'm just wondering if my plan would work before I go research it further on my own.

Re: Sprint TP on Verizon UPDATE! (NO LONGER WORKING)

If you look through this thread your question is answered.
I would not recommend using a dumb phone for your idea....
I have a friend who is using a verizonized sprint touch pro, but it isn't in the DMD database. He is getting away without a dataplan right now because verizon doesn't know what kind of phone it is.... (He used the old activation loophole that no longer works)

Ok, I looked through the entirety of the thread and they only discussion about ESNs just turned into a big legality debate and didn't get anywhere. However, I though about something else - since people are calling in and telling them the ESN to get recognized as a TP, would it be possible to lie and tell them it's a different smartphone (like the XV6800) and have them add it anyway?

Re: Sprint TP on Verizon UPDATE! (NO LONGER WORKING)

What good would that do for your idea? Its still a smartphone, which would still incur the data plan requirement.
Saying it was a XV6800 would be useless since verizon knows all of the ESNs for those devices..... I have no idea what you are trying to do here but its going in the wrong direction and off topic from this thread.

The XV6800 launched on Verizon before the November 18, 2008 cutoff date forcing the $30 data plan. I want to get a non-Verizon branded Touch Pro on Verizon (which is the point of this thread) just without the data plan. I'm sorry I've derailed the thread as much as you claim, but everyone seems to be giving me the runaround. It's like I've called up Verizon support instead of come to people who know what they're doing.

Re: Sprint TP on Verizon UPDATE! (NO LONGER WORKING)

regardless of when the phone was made, if you activate a PDA phone on verizon where you previously didnt have one they will make u get a data plan....
Grand plans of changing an ESN on a device is derailing this thread.

Not so, you are still able to activate smartphones and blackberries before the Nov 2008 cutoff without a data plan. I have a few friends who just started a new account with a phone off eBay, activated fine shows up as the correct phone yet no data plan. They have the option of Smartphone/PDA Data. Same with my Blackberry, whenever I switch back I can use BIS, BES or Data Block. I get NO Blackberry services but it's great as a txt/call phone.

Re: Sprint TP on Verizon UPDATE! (NO LONGER WORKING)

Well people are saying that the Touch Pros show up as an unknown phone unless you specifically tell them it's a TP. My idea would be that I just tell them that it's an Alltel or other carrier branded older smartphone and to manually add it to the list so it's registered as an older model (and thus exempt from the data plan). If this works then there's no need for me to ESN swap and thus everything stays legal but still dishonest
