Re: Verizon GPS Fix.....Phase I

with the aGPS fix, do I still need to prime the GPS chip with the HTC app? Google maps won't connect to any satellites without priming the GPS chip. ( I have'nt done the aGPS fix).

Also, can someone elaborate on what gc14 was talking about with the VZNav and using the LBSDriver?

UPDATED 12/21/08

Please read completely. I really don't want to have posts asking about things stated in this post.

First and foremost.... This fix is to be considered beta at the present time. I WILL NOT be held responsible for any damage to your device or any charges from you carrier if you happen to be in roaming because of this.

I have successfully unlocked VZW's TP GPS. Please realise I'm still testing and tweaking the PRI to get the last little bugs out.

Here we go

1. download lllboredlll VZW GPS Fix.cab and put on your storage card
2. install cab but don't soft reset after
3. use gsfinder or total commander to navigate to \windows\ppst.exe
4. execute ppst.exe and go thru the prompts
5. reset your device as needed
6. make sure you location is turned on and enjoy

AT THIS PRESENT TIME I'D SUGGEST NOT DIALING *228 AFTER THIS FIX IS APPLIED. IT WILL UPDATE THE MODIFIED PRL AND SHOW THAT YOU ARE ROAMING.
IF YOU DO YOU CAN SIMPLY REAPPLY THE FIX TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE.

All navigation software might not work so you may need to open the port with HTC GPS tool that I attached. Settings are Q7500 chip 4800 buad and cold start. I don't have AGPS configured because this thing locks in 2 seconds. There is no need for a data connection to assist when the results are that dang fast.

If you need to go back to the OEM PRI I have attached it aswell. Just go thru the same steps as far as installing and then ppst.exe

If you take my research and improve on it all I ask is that you atleast give me credit for the discovery. I've spent a ton of hours working with NV files and PRI's.

Hope everyone enjoys.....

A special thanks goes out to GC14 for his roaming fix. Thank you very much.

For further information if needed.

14. Click Write to Phone and then soft reset.
15. Download and install Verizon AGPS Provisioning cab that is attached and soft reset. Thanks to GC14 for cab file.

DO NOT mess with anything else in Service Programming or you could very well regret it....

Settings >> SYSTEM >> External GPS
Programs Tab- GPS Program Port: Com4
Hardware Tab- GPS Hardware Port: None, Baud Rate: 4800

Project Update: Phase II should be done within the next day or two. I'm not going to elaborate on what it will be at this time but I'm gonna put a cool spin on things for us VZW users.

Bored... wanted to thank you for the great job you did. I think i might be missing something. I followed your steps at the top of the quote and after ppst and reseting the device GPS works great, but i have not phone signal. I then used the ppst1.46 to restore the phone, but lost the GPS settings.
I thought following the instructions for the QPST might resolve it but i can only get phone service, no GPS.
What do i need to do to get both to work at the same time, GPS and Phone?

I apologize upfront for asking such an ignorant question as I realized lots of you are very knowledgeable. THank you.

BTW, i am using nexvision beta ROM and could not get it to work with the regedit change.

Re: Verizon GPS Fix.....Phase I

I was wondering if this would have anything to do with messing up my data connection? I am using Scott's 3rd rom and the gps fix and everything was fine until I roadtripped to San Diego and I am not getting EVDO down here at all (eventhough I am in spots where I know I should be getting EVDO). EVDO was working in Nor Cal. Any ideas? I could really use help since ICS is unusable ATM. Thanks.

I wasn't able to fix this so I had to undo the gps fix which got the evdo back. I hope I don't have to choose between gps and evdo. Has anyone had similar issues or gotten this to work in San Diego without losing evdo? Any ideas why this would mess up the data connection or how to resolve it?

Re: Verizon GPS Fix.....Phase I

Okay...I'm a noob & a COMPLETE moron... and this stuff is quite a learning curve... I really got to learn how to read.

I did the AGPS hack but I forgot to uncheck & re-check all the little gray squares. i.e. I have not been using AGPS all this time!!

So this thing locks without AGPS in 30 seconds outdoors & bout a minute - 90 seconds indoors - yes that's right indoors - no agps. This shows me HTC has an excellent GPS radio in this beast.

So I did it right now - from soft reset - 8-12 seconds to lock. Tested three times after 3 soft resets.

My hats off to E-Rice, Scrosler, Bored & GC - you guys are freakin' geniuses.

One thing I'm curious about is what happens if say, your phone is off...or at least your GPS is off and you move to a location that's maybe 5-10+ miles from your previous location. Do you get a quick lock then?

I think, at least with my standalone car GPS that I always got a pretty quick lock if I was in the same place as the last time I turned it on and not that much time had p*****.

I wonder if GPS units use the last know position to help it try to find where the satellites are.

So a nice test would be to turn off the GPS, go to another location and then see how fast you get a lock.

Re: Verizon GPS Fix.....Phase I

Well, I can't seem to figure out why my gps isn't working!

I started out with scrosler's ROM and attempted to do this fix but it didn't work... I didn't mess with it too much so I just went over to gc's ROM and decided I would try everything over again.. here's what I did:

1) ran bored's cab
2) executed ppst.exe
3) did QPST hacks (Display and aGps tab)
4) installed gc's agps cab (which is apparently not needed after using carrier cab)
5) ensured location was set to ON

still no locks... google times out

any words of wisdom?

Install PPST 1.46 and go thru the normal steps with PPST.exe. Then once you are rebooted apply the fix again. During that time go ahead and attempt to remove the old copy when you are prompted to. It will fail but don't worry. Continue on with the new install. Don't program via *228. The PRL within the fix is the newest one that can be aquired via *228. Please follow these exact directions to see if you get the same results I do when I get issues. Just to clearify, I get issues because I'm still messing with this fix for an update. Your's very well may be for an intirely different reason.

Once you've done all of that. Use HTC GPS Tool to verify the GPS is working. I've had various issues connecting when I continously mess. My fail safe is to always revert and then reapply the fix.

By the way, a hard reset isn't necessary. Mine will work again everytime without going thru that.
