Re: Touch Pro BLANK SCREEN!!??

I have, what appears to be, the same issue - except that I did drop the phone. It worked perfectly fine prior to that.

The phone appears to be fully operational with the exception that the screen does not display anything. It does display a faint black glow. I have verified that the touch screen works and am able to sync with my PC just fine.

I attempted the soft and hard resets, although without being able to see the screen, I can't verify that any of them completed correctly. I also attempted to remove the SD card. I have contorted and stressed the phone in various positions to try and force some contact where it may be loose but nothing worked. I performed a complete tear down of the phone and reassembled it and still have the same problem.

Has anyone attempted to replace the lcd to see if this corrects the issue or any other hardware replacement approaches?

Re: Touch Pro BLANK SCREEN!!??

Ok - so, eventually, my screen has been intermittenly going blank and working again. But now, when it does work, it has a fuzzy, garbled screen like the phone doesn't know if it's vertical or horizontal. In any case, I ordered a used housing with another LCD screen on ebay for $40. Going to try this route, and if it doesn't work. I guess it's time for a new phone. I will report back on Friday or Saturday when I get the new housing.

Re: Touch Pro BLANK SCREEN!!??

I was able to keep mine working for a couple extra days by laying the phone screen down in the palm of my hand and hitting the bottom of the black plastic on the battery door with the heel of my other hand every time i turned the phone on. The more i did it, the less effective this method was, after about 3 days of that, it is a battle to make the screen come on. Soft resets and hard resets seem to be no more effective than just using the power button.

I recommend changing all the settings in the phone/applications (like S2U2) so the screen never turns off. Battery life is horrible, but at least you have a phone while you wait for your replacement

Re: Touch Pro BLANK SCREEN!!??

Final follow up...my problem was definitely the screen. I bought a used one on ebay for $40, popped out the back casing, and put it in the replacement housing, and PRESTO! Fixed! No more garbled screen or blank screen anymore. Much better than paying $250 for a new one on ebay.

- Sprint HTC Touch Pro
- No custom ROM
- Locked, Like it was out of the box
- No programs on the phone, but what was installed from man.
- Only thing major on the phone was my contacts.

So tonight I was heading to bed, and placed my phone on the STOCK charger = USB to plug adapter. Then about 30 mins later my wife called me. I went to go get the phone but NOTHING. I could hear the ring and voicemail alert sound.

This is what I did afterwards

- Took out the batt. = NOTHING
- Placed batt. back in and turned on = Blank but could hear the startup sounds
- Soft reset = NOTHING
- Cant HARD Reset because i cant see anything.
- Turned off and took out storage card and rebooted = NOTHING

Then I started to use my brain a little . I connected the phone to the computer using the USB cable. Launched my program Call "POCKET CONTROLLER PRO". Once the phone was sync I could see everything I wanted as if I was using the phone normally. I know this is what the program is suppose to do, but i thought since nothing was working this wouldnt work. Since it does the only thing I can think it could be, is the backlight or some other defect. Not only is the screen black but so is the following.

- Screen blank
- No light around CENTER button.
- When booted up keys dont light up on slide out keyboard
- No lights on 4 buttons around center button.

So this phone is what i called Semi-dead Oh well just take it in and see what they say.

I have the SAME EXACT issue and it is KILLING ME!!!!!
My phone is still under warranty through HTC but only using
another phone for 30min made me go crazy and miss my
Touch Pro soo bad...

Does anybody know any possible solutions before I resort to sending it in?

Re: Touch Pro BLANK SCREEN!!??

Thanks for the update gatortone. I just replaced my LCD today with my wife's for testing purposes and it appears to clear it up in my case as well.

did you try putting your screen in your wife's TP? maybe there was just a loose connection causing this problem.

The reason i ask is because when i had this problem, i took a can of compressed air and put the straw on the end of the nozzle inside the housing behind the screen. When i blew the air in, the screen would work for a few hours, then i would have to repeat the process. I didnt want to remove the cover and void my sprint total equipment protection.

Re: Touch Pro BLANK SCREEN!!??

No I didn't try installing my screen in my wife's TP, but I have disassembled and reassembled mine three times now (plus once with my wife's TP parts) - though I actually didn't replace just the LCD - I used the entire assembly that's connected to the LCD (the lcd, digitizer, and casing - here is the front and back ).

I can't actually figure out how to get the LCD itself out of the casing...the service manual completely skips over actually removing the LCD (as far as I can tell). It's totally plausible that there is a loose connection somewhere, as you've suggested, but I have disconnected and reconnected everything that I can get to. I suppose it's possible that there are one or more additional connections that are obscured from my vision from Any hints?

Re: Touch Pro BLANK SCREEN!!??

Yes this is the same manual. Thanks though.

I can't see that they list the instructions for removing the LCD. Maybe it's just something really obvious that they didn't think instructions were necessary for...
