Re: TP Locking Up Overnight
Check out this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...&postcount=127 So, this guy sent his phone to HTC and they replaced the mainboard, listing an overheating failure as the symptom. Anyone else heard about this? I have a Touch Pro, and it has locked up during an overnight charge, once. My wife has one, and her's has locked up 3 times (during an overnight charge). I think her build date is before mine. We use the stock charger, and kill all running programs (except activesync). We both use the alarm clock(s). We are using the stock wall-chargers. We both run the stock ROMs with no reg-edits, and the only 3rd party programs we have installed are Google Maps. So.... perhaps this is a heat issue, and HTC is quietly fixing it with a hardware update??? |

Re: TP Locking Up Overnight
Even if it was a heat issue, how does doing a hard reset fix the issue for some people? When my first and second TP's started freezing every night, a hard reset (or even reflash) cured the problem... even if it was only temporary, it would go nearly a month before it started happening again. My latest TP hasn't had this issue yet but I haven't had it that long yet.

Re: TP Locking Up Overnight
again I must reiterate I used to have this problem across multiple windows mobile phones(and an axim as well) untill I learned naturally what to do to avoid most problems.

Re: TP Locking Up Overnight
I'm not sure why a hard reset fixes the issue.
If the hard reset truly does fix the issue (albeit only for a short period of time) then it must be a software problem. However, there is also a possibility that this symptom (locking up with the LED solid-on while charging) could happen from multiple problems. What if the symptom happens because of heat, but it can also happen because of software problems / data access problems / suspend, resume problems? It seems that we are having trouble isolating the exact cause. We need a proper test bed of multiple devices with identical software configurations, and charging habits. I have one, and my wife has one. I'll experiment the best I can with those two. |

I use activesync for push mail, and need an active connection at all times, so I must leave that on. My wife's phone locks up at night more often than mine, but I don't know if it's because her's is an earlier build date, or because I'm an experienced computer user, and she is not. I am very organized in the way I end programs, configure the phone, use it, etc. She, is not. See? Already too many variables to look into. Troubleshooting problems like these is a ***** lol |

Re: TP Locking Up Overnight
So, I have made sure to disable the two checkboxes, and I will post back here if I experience another lockup while charging.
I read this entire thread, and I think one of you posted saying that even though you have disabled the "Today" checkbox AND the turn-off device while on external power checkbox, you still get the error. Can you post again and confirm this? Can you give us more information about your configuration? Also, anyone else who has cleared both of those checkboxes - please post here if your phone is still locking up. If so, also post your configuration as well. Thanks for your help guys. Hopefully mine won't freeze. It hasn't frozen in a while, and I think by clearing those two checkboxes, I decreased the chances that it will freeze again. I hope those fix the issue on my wife's phone too. It's a shame we have to go through this... It's not like the normal everyday user would even know to mess with this to fix it... There are a lot of people that own this phone, and most of them have no idea forums like this exist! |

Re: TP Locking Up Overnight
Well, I was hoping that S2U2 was the issue, but I had a lockup last night. I'll try unchecking the Today timeout, as cornelious2 suggests. However, cornelious2, I'm confused by what you said about manually turning off programs individually. When you hit the "X" for each program, doesn't that shut it down?
I went into MemMaid to check my running programs, and the only things running (other than MemMaid itself, of course) is "Start", which is apparently manila.exe. I would assume that shouldn't be turned off. |

Re: TP Locking Up Overnight
unless you go into the options and change how the x button works, all it does is minimise programs.
