Ohh, it all makes sense now - it crashes when a program runs all night! Great, now what is the cause when you don't have a single program running at all and it crashes? I guess it is no longer when a program is running all night then eh? |

Re: TP Locking Up Overnight
well, I have been wanting a dock charging station (iphone like) for my touch pro to replace the stock charger. Now I have an excuse to purchase one. I believe "seidioonlie" has one for the Sprint TP. I'll let you guys know the results after a couple of weeks.

Re: TP Locking Up Overnight
The hard reset I did a while ago needs to be done again.
It's been a few weeks since it initially started freezing EVERY night. I've got a few posts in here a ways back that described what I ran in to... it's not the long term on the charger, or the heat, it's being on the charger in standby that makes it freeze. My reasoning is that I had it sitting overnight, and it charged fully. I woke up about 45 mintues before my alarm was supposed to go off, and checked the phone by pushing the power button and it woke up fine. Great, I thought. Pushed the button again to put it back into standby. 30 minutes later (still, 15 minutes before the alarm was supposed to go off), I wake up again, and check the phone -- it's frozen. I did a hard reset, because the other tweaks did not seem to help. Tada! Problem resolved. For a while anyway... A couple of weeks ago, my hardware keyboard 100% died and I attempted a hard reset to correct the problem (which it didn't, by the way. Sprint says a new one should be here, oh... three days ago)... Just yesterday morning, I woke up to a frozen touch pro AGAIN. In the time between the hard reset that fixed the problem, and now... I often leave BeejiveIM running overnight, signed in to two AIM accounts and an MSN account. Normally, this kills the battery at about 10% an hour over the normal drain of about 6-8%... so needless to say, I can't leave it on while I'm at class or work, but it's fine because I can get on PC there. It always ran (mostly) fine overnight! The TP never locked up, Klaxon always kicked in and woke me up in the morning. Granted, I'd often check Beejive and see one or two of the accounts signed out, at random, but who knows what really causes that. Nothing else has changed in this time. Same sort of issues now. I had an alarm set to remind me to go to work (at 1pm). Phone was sitting on the charger, it ran just fine overnight. I checked it to see the time, at about 12:55. Hit the power button to put it into standby. Hopped on my PC to check my e-mail and poke around here before leaving for work. I thought, surely, more than five minutes have gone by... Sure enough, PC clock says it's 1:08 and the alarm never went off. TP is frozen again. It seems to freeze most often in the 1 minute period before the alarm is supposed to go off. I use Klaxon for my alarm, and have noticed sometimes the screen will turn on when the clock changes to 1 minute before the alarm. Still, even without Klaxon on the phone, it freezes. I just put up with it at this point, I'm still on the stock Sprint ROM. I recently re-flashed to the Telus radio (which is much better, by the way! Do it!) I want to reflash to Juggalo's ROM, but I don't like the way it looks, nor do I like how he has removed the stock Sprint applications... I actually use Sprint Navigation, SprintTV, and deal with the issues with PictureMail because I don't want to pay for sMMS. The HTC black theme should bring it back to close enough, and give me the automatically resetting flip clock that I really want, so I'm considering trying it. The hard reset in the process of reflashing is likely to stop the freezing issue for a while, by then, I hope I can have my diamond with a cosmetic keyboard exchanged for a pro. |

Re: TP Locking Up Overnight
I'm about a week into my new HTC Touch Pro and it has frozen on me twice. I'm not even doing anything crazy on it. Just making normal calls and texts mostly.
I had it charging. I hit the button on top to check if I missed any calls and then hit the button on top again to let it go back to sleep. Next time I checked the phone, it was frozen. |

Re: TP Locking Up Overnight
My wife's locked up last night, not letting the alarm go off. I woke up to my alarm - an hour later than she should have woken up. That is quite frustrating. I picked up her phone, hit the power button to wake up the screen, and it asked for her password. The time said 2:33am. It let me type in her password, and press unlock. The unlock button highlighted as normal - but nothing happened.
We went to bed at 11:30pm. Before putting the phone down, she set the alarm (don't ask me why she doesn't just set it once and leave it alone). Right before that, I had been watching a video on YouTube, and afterwards, I used the close all "X" to make sure all items closed as her battery was at 84-ish percent and I didn't want it to drain so she wouldn't have to charge it the next day. I have read through a few pages of this thread, and I think the general theme of it is that people's TPs have been freezing/locking up while charging the phone. We didn't set it to charge overnight. Somebody mentioned that perhaps it's doing this while a program is running. There shouldn't have been any programs running, unless she didn't hit ok on the clocks & alarms. Another thing I just remembered is that after I did a soft reset, the first thing to come up once TF3D loaded, was an error about VoiceCommand not having enough memory. She didn't even have VoiceCommand on yet. I went to its settings and turned VoiceCommand on after that to try to recreate the error. I was not able to. Has anyone else had any of these issues? We're about a week or so into her having this phone, so I don't want to wait too long to find out this is going to keep happening a few months down the road. |

Phone freezing/battery draining overnight while charging
I've had this happen two or three times so far. I was off work Sunday so I wasn't really using my phone much, and at the end of the night, I had 8/10 bars left on the battery. Everything on the phone is untouched, other than the registry edit for improved battery life.
Anyways, I woke up late for work today because my alarm on my phone never went off. The LED light on the circular button was a constant on, indicating that the phone was fully charged. I went ahead and pressed the power button to get the screen on and nothing happened, and the LED light still stayed on. Slid the phone open, same thing, nothing happened. I did a soft reset, and although my phone had been on the charger overnight (from 2am to 9am), it showed 2/10 bars for the battery. I'm using the OEM home charger for it. Any idea as to what it could be? edit: nvm thanks for the merge, 6 pages of reading and no definite answer, booo to htc =[ Last edited by Costas; 12-29-2008 at 03:21 PM. |

Re: TP Locking Up Overnight
I tried to purchase a new charger (I said I would in an earlier post) to see if that was the problem. I purchased a really nice docking charger for my TP. Well...... day 2 it locked up while charging overnight. So that about does it, I have tried everything and every suggestion on this forum!!!!!
1. I have tried 2 different TP's. 2. I have tried 4 different batteries 3. I unchecked all boxes suggested 4. I always make sure there are no programs running in the backround. 5. I never even added so much as a contact to my 2nd TP (straight out of box, nothing added) and still it froze the 3rd day. 6. I did a soft reset 7. I did a hard reset 8. I used the stock charger and also tried a 2nd non sprint/HTC charger. 9. I took out the sim card 10. NOTHING WORKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Well it seems there is only 1 last option, well at least for me so far. I now charge my TP overnight and do not allow the screen to ever go dark. I unchecked both the "today timeout" and "Turn off device if not used for" as well in addition I unchecked a 3rd box, "Turn off backlight if device is not used for." This means now that when I charge overnight, my screen will always stay lit. It can't lock up if I don't allow it to. I have not had a problem since. Well "YET" is probably a better statement. I don't mind because It will still charge fully by the time I wake up. Stay tuned.................. |
