Phone freezing/battery draining overnight while charging

I've had this happen two or three times so far. I was off work Sunday so I wasn't really using my phone much, and at the end of the night, I had 8/10 bars left on the battery. Everything on the phone is untouched, other than the registry edit for improved battery life.

Anyways, I woke up late for work today because my alarm on my phone never went off. The LED light on the circular button was a constant on, indicating that the phone was fully charged. I went ahead and pressed the power button to get the screen on and nothing happened, and the LED light still stayed on. Slid the phone open, same thing, nothing happened.

I did a soft reset, and although my phone had been on the charger overnight (from 2am to 9am), it showed 2/10 bars for the battery. I'm using the OEM home charger for it.

Any idea as to what it could be?

edit: nvm thanks for the merge, 6 pages of reading and no definite answer, booo to htc =[
