I'm not sure why a hard reset fixes the issue.

If the hard reset truly does fix the issue (albeit only for a short period of time) then it must be a software problem.

However, there is also a possibility that this symptom (locking up with the LED solid-on while charging) could happen from multiple problems.

What if the symptom happens because of heat, but it can also happen because of software problems / data access problems / suspend, resume problems?

It seems that we are having trouble isolating the exact cause. We need a proper test bed of multiple devices with identical software configurations, and charging habits.

I have one, and my wife has one. I'll experiment the best I can with those two.
