Re: The Chrome Issue?, D-Pad questions?
The chrome flaking never was an issue for me until a couple weeks ago, and I got the phone last October when it came out. It started by coming off in tiny little pieces, then it was a "crack". The crack, as it turns out, was actually a crack in the plastic RIGHT next to the screw underneath the keyboard that sits 1mm away from the edge. What a stupid spot for a screw hole. That piece came off my device yesterday in a store. Now I'm pretty pissed, and I don't think they will replace for cosmetic issues. Oh, and I have NEVER once dropped this phone or abused it.
Hell, they wouldn't even replace my Touch when I had a big fat dark spot in the middle of the screen. I had to pay $50 to get a new one. I'm quickly becoming an unhappy Sprint customer due to how they are handling repairs. I called today because my USB port stopped working (of course, one more thing) and they said I need to call Asurion and pay $100 to get a new one.

Re: The Chrome Issue?, D-Pad questions?
Regarding the DPad:
Moving your finger around the circle will let you zoom in on SOME applications (Opera, the new Internet Explorer, messaging, album, etc.) There's a utility called Diamond Config that will actually let you turn on scrolling for some apps. I don't know the list of apps off the top of my head, but I know the contact list is included.

Try the store over the chrome cracking issue, I'm pretty sure I read another thread here where they said it is a known issue and they will replace it for free. |

Re: The Chrome Issue?, D-Pad questions?
That was last year. I doubt they'll replace a year old phone for free. I'm sure they'll blame it on wear and tear.

Re: The Chrome Issue?, D-Pad questions?
Could this whole chrome flaking be caused do to everyday perspiration of the hands on the phone? The reason I ask is because my touch pro is almost a year old with no chrome flaking, it might be because I have a body glove case on it, maybe you guy's should try that.

Re: The Chrome Issue?, D-Pad questions?
I doubt it, because all of my problems are on the right side of the phone, which my hands don't even touch very often.

Re: Does anyone else have a crack in the chrome?
Cicatrize, I have the exact same issue as you with my Telus Touch Pro. The most horrible looking pictures in this thread of a crumbling Touch Pro; That's where mine's heading, exactly.
On the right side of my phone on the side of the front bezel, surrounding the screw and the slide track, there are two hairline cracks. My phone's always been in a protective plastic case (that the Telus CSR upsold me on when I bought my phone in June/09, same month I joined up to the forums here ), I've never dropped it and absolutely baby this thing. I'm getting a HUGE run around from Telus Customer Service. I first called in to explain my issue after reading through this thread here, thinking that they would likely acknowledge that there was an issue in manufacturing with Touch Pros made in November/08 (like mine is). Nope. They have apparently never heard of this issue. They recommended that I take it in to the Telus store where I purchased the phone so they could have a look at it. So I took it in this evening and was told that my warranty doesn't cover physical damage. That was an answer I wasn't accepting since, as I mentioned, I've been meticulous with the care of this phone. Another call to customer service from within the Telus store and the CSR on the end of the phone ended up telling me to call hTC for a repair of the device, since Telus absolutely will not cover physical damage for this 'known' issue, which they refuse to acknowledge exists. Got home, had a beer, calmed down. Ok, let's call hTC. A helpful lad named Shane answers my call and takes my info. As soon as I tell him my carrier is Telus, he informs me that Telus handles all repairs of their Touch Pros. He wasn't willing to acknowledge that this cracking was a well known issue, but he was at least a little helpful. He took my information down and he's apparently filing a customer complaint against Telus on my behalf. What good that will do, I have no idea. So that leaves me dealing with Telus again. I have no good ideas of how to handle this since every Telus representative I've talked to now has lied to me about how repairs are handled. Telus reps somehow believe that hTC will handle the repairs and hTC guaranteed me that Telus does all their own repairs. Basically, there's obviously a known manufacturing issue with Touch Pros, Telus refuses to acknowledge the issue and is trying to pass the buck on to hTC...even though hTC outright doesn't service Telus branded Touch Pros. I'm almost at wits end here. I suppose I'll photograph the cracks and CC both Telus and hTC customer service with the picture and some reading material and try to make something happen. |

Re: Does anyone else have a crack in the chrome?
I just called and reported this to Sprint along with the fuzzy sounds in the volume....they say go take it to a store and get it replaced. Wonder what I will get....
