That piece came off my device yesterday in a store. Now I'm pretty pissed, and I don't think they will replace for cosmetic issues. Oh, and I have NEVER once dropped this phone or abused it.
Hell, they wouldn't even replace my Touch when I had a big fat dark spot in the middle of the screen. I had to pay $50 to get a new one. I'm quickly becoming an unhappy Sprint customer due to how they are handling repairs.
I called today because my USB port stopped working (of course, one more thing) and they said I need to call Asurion and pay $100 to get a new one.

Try the store over the chrome cracking issue, I'm pretty sure I read another thread here where they said it is a known issue and they will replace it for free.
