1. Dunno what you mean...
2. If you connect your phone to your home wifi network, it's no charge.
3. What tethering is: Connecting your phone to your computer/laptop and browsing internet on your computer using your cellphone's 3G or EVDO (or whatever) network.
So basically using your phone's network to browse on the internet on another device.

[QUOTE=Holyman007;1345715]OMG Just checked my data usage and got a god damn nice surprise:

Holyman, did you talk to Telus today, and if so, what was the outcome?

I have not read if anyone has gotten discounts/waived fees, and am just wondering how the carriers are responding.

Thanks!!

Not sure about Telus, but Bell agreed to waive all but $100 of my unexpected tethering charges as a "goodwill gesture".

Just got off the phone with telus. Apparantly you get a "one-time credit" for data charges of smartphones so if you make a "mistake" they can credit almost all the charges but only for one time.

For my $2000 bill, the tech guy brought it down to $150 + tax so it's pretty good. He said that the reduction in the charges he can give me is ranked depending on how much the total data charge is.

So I'm guessing if you got dinged $1000 for data, they can bring it down to $75-100 for one-time. ($500 -> $25-50, etc)

Damn telus, hopefully this fix will be permanant cause I don't wanna go through all that again and prob pay a couple grand next time.

They now have tethering included plans but I'm not gonna give up my $50 student plan for that...

id get legal on them before i payed a bill that large.

Telus included there tethering app in there usb to pc pop up. its easy to select by accident and the Wmodem app falls to the back drop after a few seconds so this could be an easy mistake even on the stock rom.... not only this. the sales reps didn't inform there customers of the risk of this mistake.

as do most(all?) people here, saves you quite a bit of moolah while on the road though(beats paying for slower but way overpriced hotel/resort/brothel charges), as well as using your laptop while driving(dont forget you need to be eating, smoking and flipping other drivers off at the same time as well in order for it to work)

Except in this case the customer didn't select tethering on accident, he knew exactly what he was trying to do and got busted for it. It was nice of them to lower the charges but there comes a time when a man should take responsibility for his actions. And I'm sure any legal reps from Telus wouldn't have trouble finding this thread or it's users.
