Re: Verizon TP2 MR3 upgrade is available
I use iGo8 on the TP2 (Verizon MR2, see sig below). It used to lag a bit, but after overclocking the device (currently at 806.4Mhz) I experience no discernible lag. It is my opinion (FWiW) that the CPU just runs too slow for all of the system overhead combined with the GPS software. Once OC'd, everything is "golden". That said, I may try the MR3 just to be at the current version. Or not...

And OC'd or not does not change the lag. I agree that it seems that the GPS chip is different between the Titan/Apache and TP2 anhd the GPS software is just not optomized to use the GPS chip that is in the TP2. I came from the Apache and I would run GarminXT just fine on it. No lag what so ever on the Apache.

I really wish there was a update for Tomtom for a TP2 so I can just go back to the software I paid for (Tomtom's software is free but, the maps cost you) |

Is the GPS "chip" known in both the TP2 and the older devices? I seem to recall (when looking at "pucks" for my car PC) that there are different GPS chips and the behave differently from each other. The software had to be set up for each type of "puck". Might this be what is needed here? |

The GPS chip in the Touch Pro 2 has been beaten to death on this site and XDA. It's a known problem, There is not really an option on software for another type of GPS reciver. It's a HTC driver/hardware problem (well ,Broadcom, who makes the GPS/FM/Bluetooth/Wi-FI chipset). Some phones are effected with it, others not, others don't have it as bad, there is no known fix for it, flashing roms does not help. The question came up to see if it was addressed in anyway on this upgrade. With just flashing the radio (only thing that was updated on this release from what has been said), in my tests, Tomtom 7 and Navigon 7 showed the same exact results (lag 1 to 3, seconds worse on Tomtom even with the reg fixes). So, unless anyone has results that fixes lag for Tomtom on a CDMA TP2 with MR3, this subject about GPS is complete and if we need to talk more about it, let's start a new thread. Now back to your regular scheduled chat... Any other changes or better perfomance noted with MR3 ??? (hey I'm trying !!!!) |

Re: Verizon TP2 MR3 upgrade is available
Honestly, I haven't noticed a single functional difference between MR2 and MR3. Saying that, I never have experienced the SOD or some of the other anomalies reported here. Does seem a shame that they had to release the radio change as an entire MR though.

Re: Verizon TP2 MR3 upgrade is available
I believe that in the process of doing our NAND testing for Android, we have identified why SoD actually occurs some of the time. Apparently HTC decided to just use random panels on our devices rather than using the exact same one for all rhodium devices. This means that Verizon's ROM's have the drivers designed specifically for the panels in their devices from HTC, but if you use those drivers on the Sprint device, it may have SoD because it is not optimized for the different panel(s) used in the rhod400...
