I thought I was pretty good with the XV6800, I knew my way around PPCkitchen like the back of my hand and make many custom roms for my own use. I guess the real reason was to get 6.5 on a 6.1 phone, the TP2 has 6.5 so I have not seen the need to try it. (I am unlocked tho, because I have tried radios, etc) If there is a way found to put WP7 on a TP2, trust me in about 3 days I would be the master at it again

Thanks for looking !
Yeah, I think the reason Verizon released a full ROM update instead of just a radio update is purely for support purposes. If you wipe the OS, all phones have the same starting point and would be easier to diagnose radio/SPL propblems. If you let people retain their OS, they'll see an increase of support calls of people thinking the update broke their phone when it was just one of the applications they installed.

I was unlocked running NRGz custom 23699 ROM.

Flashed the new radio and then flashed NRGz new 23150 Dec 5th Rom.

So yes, you can flash the radio while unlocked and it will not relock your phone.

Re: Verizon TP2 MR3 upgrade is available

Was just about ready to apply this upgrade when I realized something; I never did the MR1 or MR2 update. The ROM date on my phone is 11/17/2009. Some people have mentioned SOD and needing hard resets. Are these more prevalent with MR2? Should I do this upgrade or is my phone in better working condition with the older ROM?

Thought maybe why I want to install this update might be useful. I was planning on doing a hard reset and then unlocking my phone so I could try some custom ROMs. I'm looking for a new experience without having to get new hardware. I almost bought a Droid X the other day but VZW's poor warranty policy made me change my mind. I'm also going to be getting an SD card (again) and putting Android on it so I can play with both OS's.

So again update to MR3 or not??

This will not re-lock your phone. The "locked" status is from the SPL which is not in the NBH I uploaded (which will only update the radio).

So here's the quick breakdown on this decision. If you are going to unlock your device and mess around with custom ROM's, just do that and flash the radio I have posted. If you decide you don't want to unlock your phone, you can move straight to MR3, but it will wipe your device and you will have Sense 2.5 instead of Sense 2.1 (which is a good thing IMO).

I haven't had SoD issues since the early MightROM's, and I don't think I ever experienced it on the Official ROM. I did have MR2 on my device for a couple of weeks, and it ran just fine. The difference in going to a custom ROM is just far better functionality, better customization capabilities, and a better layout.

Does anyone know for sure on this ??????? As far as anyone can see so far is the only thing that is changed is the radio.

GPS sucks on the TP2, not dependable at all, it would be sweet to get Tomtom working correctly but, I am dreaming (and no, using a 3rd party program to make it "sort of work" is not a fix)

Is there a way to extract the SPL file from MR3 and install it (just incase there is changes) ???

Personally, I was just speculating.
Honestly, I have never had any issues with gps on my sprint tp2 and since I have heard many verizon tp2 owners complain I wondered if something screwy was done in with the verizon model in the shipped spl like verizon did on the old vogue.
On the verizon vogue gps would work great with the verizon navigation app but not with anything else unless you flashed an older shipped rom which changed and unlocked gps.
Again, I'm just wondering.

I don't know anything about GPS code updates, but I really doubt they would put in the R&D time on it. Personally, I use the GPSModDriver from here: [GPS] Mod Driver - GeoCaching, Lag, Compass, Cell Tower, Altitude, GPS support. - xda-developers

While I realize you say a 3rd party program to make it "sort of work" isn't a fix, it really does more than the standard GPS can do on its own. Some applications like Garmin XT cannot use cellular triangulation, but the GPSModDriver actually supports that and passes that data through to Garmin XT.

Also, it has the ability to project your location based on speed and direction to help minimize the lag that is inherent in all GPS (though it is worse on the TP2 than it is on a lot of other devices).
