Re: Verizon TP2 MR3 upgrade is available
It would be really interesting to know if this rom update fixed any other issues. With the MR3 download being 173mb, it's not just a radio. Even if they changed a few files, it could have a major impact on the system perfomance, SOD, TF3D or other known issues with this phone.
Just by what is posted, I just flashed the radio but, was thinking about the whole thing but, didn't want to have to re-lock my phone again. Does any one really know (not just a guess by the WM version) ? I guess if Mr. X makes a unlocked version of MR3, then I would install it.

Re: Verizon TP2 MR3 upgrade is available
Hi BullyDawg,
I can confirm what imnuts said. Running the downlaoded MR3, seems to do a hard reset after flasing the radio. I had to completely re-setup my phone. Which was ok, as I had intended on hard resetting soon anyway (to clean up from Cookie's Home Tab 2). I am rather annoyed that it reset everything only to update the radio (only two builds newer to boot). They should have released it as a radio update only, and not as MR3. Good luck! Rich S. |

Also, I don't know if Mr. X will be messing around with the TP2 stuff anymore. I know he posted what he did, so maybe I'll look that up while I'm at it |

Re: Verizon TP2 MR3 upgrade is available
I'm more interested in how the radio performs. I live in a very diverse cell signal area and so if there is any improvement I'll let you know.

I live in a problem area myself, use a network extender (that will grab a low powered tower when I walk over to the other side of my house, then will not re-connect to the extender resulting in dropped calls) For the first testings, it seemed to work better but, over all if anything 1-2% better, I still result in dropped calls a lot. As I said above, the radio is maybe a hair bit better but, not that much better in my tests. If it was a unlocked version (really don't want to have to possably pay to unlock my phone again), I would nuke and try it today..... Thanks again ! Last edited by DavidinCT; 12-09-2010 at 05:27 PM. |

Re: Verizon TP2 MR3 upgrade is available
yup...I get the same result. Still drops in all the normal places.
If anybody knows why I always drop a call at mile marker 126, and just north of the bridge in King, NC that would be awesome. |

Re: Verizon TP2 MR3 upgrade is available
OK, so I disassembled both MR2 and MR3 for comparison. There does not appear to be a single difference in the OS payloads. All of the EXT packages are identical, all of the OEM jazz is the same, and all of the file sizes match. I'm not going to bother with hash comparisons on all of the files, but I can pretty much confirm there were no changes.
As for cleaning up the ROM like Mr. X did, I will take a look at it, but I could only dream of being as talented as some of our chefs. I haven't compiled a ROM since the Wizard days :P |

I thought I was pretty good with the XV6800, I knew my way around PPCkitchen like the back of my hand and make many custom roms for my own use. I guess the real reason was to get 6.5 on a 6.1 phone, the TP2 has 6.5 so I have not seen the need to try it. (I am unlocked tho, because I have tried radios, etc) If there is a way found to put WP7 on a TP2, trust me in about 3 days I would be the master at it again Thanks for looking ! |
