So here's the quick breakdown on this decision. If you are going to unlock your device and mess around with custom ROM's, just do that and flash the radio I have posted. If you decide you don't want to unlock your phone, you can move straight to MR3, but it will wipe your device and you will have Sense 2.5 instead of Sense 2.1 (which is a good thing IMO).

I haven't had SoD issues since the early MightROM's, and I don't think I ever experienced it on the Official ROM. I did have MR2 on my device for a couple of weeks, and it ran just fine. The difference in going to a custom ROM is just far better functionality, better customization capabilities, and a better layout.
I just want the radio without wiping my device. But, I have had problems with the HardSPL unlocker. (Plus, my TP2 is under warranty/insurance and I don't want to have that voided.)

Is there a way to cab the VzW radio-only upgrade so that it will unlock, load the radio, and re-lock (without wiping my device)? I am willing to stick with the stock Vzw rom, stay locked, and not go custom. Thanks.

On the verizon vogue gps would work great with the verizon navigation app but not with anything else unless you flashed an older shipped rom which changed and unlocked gps.
Again, I'm just wondering.

While I realize you say a 3rd party program to make it "sort of work" isn't a fix, it really does more than the standard GPS can do on its own. Some applications like Garmin XT cannot use cellular triangulation, but the GPSModDriver actually supports that and passes that data through to Garmin XT.

Also, it has the ability to project your location based on speed and direction to help minimize the lag that is inherent in all GPS (though it is worse on the TP2 than it is on a lot of other devices).

Not to get this subject too far off topic but....

The biggest problem I have with TP2 is the lag, it's so bad I'm not kidding (2-3 seconds). I have tried Tomtom, Navigon and bing (bing still shows some lag, it has gotten me lost a few time, yes, Bing). My old Titan's GPS with A-GPS was flawless with Tomtom, under 10 second locks 95% of the time and 0 lag. The TP2 is not even close. I guess I try IGO8 next.

Paying for a extra addon program that I have to run right before I use a GPS program (GPSgate) just to get GPS working on a phone that claims GPS support is a problem for me. I have already spent money on tomtom, why should I spend more ??

As for the GPSModDriver I personally think its worse, so you pass a road, then turn it updates 2-3 seconds after you pass the road. A guess (what it's doing) is not a fix for it. It might work for some, but, not for me. I would pay for GPS gate (because it does work during the trial) before using that GPSModDriver again.

I just want a turn by turn GPS software that I just open, 95%+ of the time locks within 30 seconds and is dependable with out having other 3rd party programs running. I don't think it's even possable on a TP2...

I was hoping that MR3 had some update to fix this but, let's not go off topic any more on this.

Hello,
You can do a backup first then flash the new ROM then reinstall your backup.
This is what I did going from MR2 and my phone is working fine with the new radio. My phone is not unlocked.

Unfortunately, no. The radio must be updated from the bootloader. It would be too dangerous to allow updating from within the OS.

I understand where you are coming from. I think GPS gate is amazing, and it must use some sort of profile for our phones. GPSModDriver is generic, and I thought it really sucked at first too. Then I realized I had to customize a lot of settings to get it working (like lowering the polling so it wouldn't jump past where I turned like you stated). Once calibrated, I find GPSModDriver to be perfect, but it sucks having to do trial and error with it when something like GPS Gate works out of the box

Is that true? Is this just for Verizon? I am on Sprint.

Sometimes I have to Flash Dance from stock but I have never had to re-lock the phone.

I really think we should take this to a new thread but, I have GPS gate but, the reason I hated it is because every time i wanted to run Tomtom, I would have to run GPS gate, wait, then run Tomtom and it would work with very little lag, if any. Is there a way to create a shortcut that will run GPSgate first then Tomtom ? that might solve the problem.

I want to click on tomtom, have it run and work with out issues when I need it. It's interesting tho, I have been playing with Navigon with US maps for the day, it actually reads road names, wow, Tomtom does not do that. I'll try IGO8 next, just to see how well it runs (lag and to comare against Tomtom). I still like Tomtom the best over all still (I tried Garman before too)

I gave GPSModDriver a good run (for 2 weeks)and calibrated it a few times, it acted haywire a few times on me, never mind it's guessing, so it's not that accurate when it comes down to it (it screwed me up a few times when I missed a road)

I just wish GPS worked on the TP2 as good as the Titan

David your gps is messed up on your phone. I never have issues with a gps lock. I lock with 5 seconds 95% of the time. Yes I do have lag but it is directly comparable to my XV6800.

This is true for the Verizon MR2 and MR3 updates, but not for the radio ROM I ripped out. I don't think Sprint has that issue with any of their official ROMs.
