Re: So.... TP2 a dead platform?
Here's my...
2cents If you're happy with the device as it is today, happy with the current functionality; then you don't need to switch to another device this second but.. My biggest concern is that 6 months from now, that version of windows 6.X.X I'm running is not going to be any different than it is today. The suite of programs I have installed on my phone, is not going to be any different than it is today. Remaining annoyances will not get resolved and errors will not get fixed. The reasoning is, program development will shift focus to WM7 or other platforms. For the most part feels like it already has. I'm a big fan of checking out the WM Software section, the TP2 Application threads here and on XDA, freewareppc.com, etc. and can't tell you the last time I've seen any interesting new program come out. The TP2 may not be dead today, but it sure is getting long in the tooth.... [pt]

Re: So.... TP2 a dead platform?
As far as winmo goes, for the consumer it is dead...M$ merged it back into the Windows Embedded tree..so while phones, tablets and other things will come out they will generally not be on a top end phone. (The tablets may reach the consumer I guess is a possibility)
Overall though there always comes a point where we must "move on"..the TP2 was fun while it lasted and will continue to have at least some form of community support as being one of the best winmo phones. I am right now using both my TP2 and my Epic...and Epic *drool*...if you want to give Android a shot Epic is the way to go >.>...and it has a keyboard making it double delicious...But I warn you now..if you go to the store and even look at it...your not gonna leave without it >.> lol Oh and EVO is so last year...keep up with the times lol

Re: So.... TP2 a dead platform?
A few speak of the TP2 as being an unstable device. Goodness, not from my view point. I have had 2 (gave my old one to one of my sons) and purchased a 2nd one 2 weeks ago to use along with my 3 month old Evo. Both devices are stable. Both have their problems. I find the TP2 to be a better business device. Out of the box it is more productive than the Evo. Resets? Nope. None at all with either device. If I knew what I know now when I purchased the Evo, I would have put it off until another device came along.
The Evo: Bluetooth sucks big time. I hate the screen keyboards. I hate the search key placement. I hate the voice search. I hate not being able to easily cruise the device. I hate Documents to Go. I hate HTC sync. The list continues. It is fast though and the browser is a whole lot better. Frankly, these are the only 2 things I see that the Evo shines at.

Re: So.... TP2 a dead platform?
There are plenty of reasons to hang onto the TP2. It is still a competent smart phone.
But judging from the OP's questions, I'd probably say yes, it's time to move on. "Cutting edge" was long gone with the TP2 about 6 months ago. There won't be any new OS developments (besides the XDAndroid port which still is very much a work-in-progress). There are very few cutting edge programs being written for Windows Mobile either. |

The phone hardware wise was ok but crippled by the crappy OS. I mean there was the tp, tp2, touch and imagio. The hero and aria soldered on with the same specs but were deemed ok because of the OS. what does that show for win6.5? Even the HD2 with the same specs as my evo is crippled by winmo. And it won't be upgraded to 7.
I call bull shit on that one Sent from my fast as hell phone that you can only wish you had

Re: So.... TP2 a dead platform?
Well, here's the end of it... and much of this site probably... MightyMike and Mr. X are done...
So I can expect nothing new and updated for my TP2, time to go to Android.
