My 1 cent...

Plain and simple. Sprint has been trying to get folks off of Sero for years now. Working around that TOS loophole where as long as you don't change your plan you can keep it. They enacted that "Minimum plan required was $70/month" for the Hero/Pre when those phones launched.

They basically wanted to eat like AT&T and the like was eating with the iPhone release being those phones should have been "iPhone killers".

Seeing how most Sero people was unmoved and stuck with their plans, their marketing reps basically said fine if we can't get em off Sero lets "try" and trickle some more money out of em with these new $10 fees, The 4G fee has been beaten to death, but that $10 anytime mobile (unnecessary to some people, like me) is still required just to get that iconic device. (hook)

Also as Russ said, once you upgrade to Sero Premium you probably can't change back to regular Sero if you return the phones -- hence your stuck paying $50 (line).

Like everything business wise else we (customers) are just fish in the water and these new marketing ploys are just different bait techniques to see which fish bites. -- Hook, line and sinker.

Although I side with Nary's argument, my TP2 has been getting under the skin lately... (just today alone it (not me) forgot it's pin - forced to hard reset). May be forced to upgrade out of sheer annoyance with the phone, winmo, etc...

Come on now, do you think Sprint is keeping us on because they love us or do you think it's smart business when it's all said and done? Any customer goodwill they throw our way is a calculated business decision.

How would this headline look to the public, investors, and potential/current customers: "Sprint cuts off thousands citing change of heart about excessively low monthly prices once offered to employees' friends & family, anyone they knew really, and oh yeah also anyone with internet access or who considered discontinuing Sprint service but was retained as a customer with the SERO plan, which in the first place was likely a ploy to mitigate horrible churn numbers following a disastrous Nextel merger."

A fair solution to this whole mess may involve giving the customers options instead of "forcing" the additional fees if you decide you want Android OS.

1. Keep your $30 SERO, we will honor the 500min/text/m2m/5gb data you originally agreed do but screw yourself as far as getting a carrier subsidy on the phone. You're just not worth it (which can't be far from the truth)
2. Move to SERO premium for $40, we'll subsidize the new device every so often and we'll even throw ain ny mobile any time + GPS***
3. You have 30 days to port your number out. Peace.

***oh yeah, about that, no more fair and flexible "bucket minutes" that you signed up for. Now you pay $0.40/min if you go over your minutes

You know it really is amazing. SO when your capture beats you and then says would you like some water. I mean he is being nice and throwing you a bone right? (I know sprint is not torturing anyone but its the closest simple analogy I could find)

Point is they TOOK a pound of flash and then say hey you can buy it back if you want.

Tossing me a bone? I don't want their bone. I want them to stop changing the rules and there has never in the past been a rule like this.

They "made this up"

AHH I got a better analogy.

Banks and Overdraft fees. I mean they are tossing you a bone by allowing you to have overdraft protection to avoid those $35 fees right? the overdraft protection is only $10.

but in the past overdrafts were non existant because if you had not enough money the CHARGE WAS SIMPLY DECLINED.

so they "jigger" the system to allow overdrafts cream you for $35 per and they FABRICATE a new overdraft pay system (overdraft protection used to be free) that ALSO costs money.

but people like you think hey they are tossing us a bone. NO they CREATED the conditions that needed the bone tossing intentionally.

Sprint is not tossing you anything. They took away from you and they fabricated a PAY OPTION to get back what they took away.

One day you folks will grow up and realize maybe I should have done something.

Ego's and Crowds tend to flock together no matter how illogical. hence the "thanks" you guys are patting yourselves on the back with. Meaningless.

the rest of us are forced to live with your stupid decisions.

you do realize before any of these "iconic" phones came out your choices were UNLIMITED. you could BUY and ACTIVATE any power vision sprint phone your simple little hear desired.

you do realize this right? YOU ALWAYS had the choice.

SPRINT then changed the rules. they REMOVED the choice and are not "giving it back" with a fee.

Sprint is offering NO option. they are TAKING options away and then offering to RESTORE THEM for a fee.

If you can not see this critical difference I just don't know. Its amazing.

Well amazing actually you see we live in this section of the world called the United States of America. in this section of this planet called Earth we have something called LAWS. We have something called RIGHT and WRONG.

We have a constitution. There is not much LEFT of this constitution but its still kicking a little.

We have laws that VERY STRONGLY discourage sprint from doing exactly what you suggest. IE it would not end well for sprint at all. It might even finish them. You see our constituents still have some intelligence left and our representatives and senators would have to act on that.

Trust me its NOT so easy as ok all sero discontinued. the public image and REAL legal ramifications of that would be nearly impossible for sprint to survive.
