Re: New SERO Oct 1st
Can spmeone please change the name of this thread to "nerys personal redundant rant"?
the fact is Sprint has the cheapest plans of all the major providers, and then has SERO and Advantage Club which make it even cheaper. When these plans came about there was no skype, video mail, streaming music, or downloading movies to your phone. I say we are lucky the price lasted as long as it did. Keep the phone you have and you do not have to worry about the price change. If you are pissed you have to pay more for a phone designed to be a data intensive phone on Sprint, go to Verison, Att, or T-Mobile and try to find a cheaper plan (good luck). Everything gets more expensive, it is part of life.

Re: New SERO Oct 1st
I wouldnt say I'm pro higher bill. I'd say I'm 'pro-choice' (lol). The original plan remains, but Sprint just offered options that weren't originally there.

Re: New SERO Oct 1st
Between this and the TP2 overclocking (I haven't checked in for a while) I'm very happy right now. I never expected to be able to get an Android phone with my SERO plan and I was actually at a crossroads between sticking it out with the TP2 "forever" or biting the bullet and paying for a normal full-price plan.
I don't completely agree with nerys but I do see where he's coming from. It does seem like the extra $20 is based primarily on the popularity of the Android phones and not for a "technical" reason, though I'm no network engineer. However, I'm looking at it this way - I have been unbelievably happy with Sprint in the 3 years that I've been with them (I know that's nothing compared to most), so I feel loyal towards the company. Every time I read about their business, it seems like they're not doing so hot. This worries me because 1) I like them as a company and 2) I like having my awesome SERO plan. For me personally, I'm completely fine with paying $20 more a month if it means I can have the greatest new phones and I know it's helping out Sprint just a teeny tiny bit more. Is it my (or our) responsibility to "rescue" Sprint with these extra fees, no. But would I rather see Sprint go under, and then go back to paying out the @$$ with Verizon or AT&T? HELL NO. |

Re: New SERO Oct 1st
Well before this gets closed down i'd like to throw in my 2 cents.
I can see both sides to this argument but i do think i side more with nerys.. Basically this argument is over $10, the $10 for using 4g is a given and thats not a new charge, once i get 4g in my area it will be well worth it. It is a new technology and i dont mind paying for NEW If sprint is worried about using more data with an Android phone then they need to enforce the 5g data limit, they aren't worried though it's just an excuse from them and that's ok because they make the calls. Now if they would do that and let us use what we have Always used (500min, texts, 5g data) then the only reason they would have for charging an extra $10 is subsidy on the phone. And if they want to do that, then even that makes sense. Where I don't agree is if someone would pay retail for a phone, getting no subsidy from the carrier yet still charge them more a month for the Exact same thing, Same data, same texts, same minutes. Now this isn't just an issue with Sprint. Every other carrier also does this, what do you get for NOT taking advantage of carrier subsidy? Nothing besides not being locked into a 2 year contract. Let me sum it up, I don't disagree with the extra $10 charge IF you are going to get the phone for a discounted price through the carrier. But if you are going to buy a phone outright and use the same thing you're going to use with any other phone then i do disagree with the charge. Since everyone is so obsessed with analogies let me try to give mine. You buy a car and sign a contract to buy gas at $30 a week. After 2 years of that and you upgrade cars now they want to charge you $40 a week just because it's a nicer car. Even though you use the exact same amount of gas. Most people won't think twice about it but i just think its wrong. If the place you buy the car from gives you a discount on the car if you buy gas from them then yes raise it to $40. and I feel that just because Sprint wants to add a $10 charge just to grab a new phone, doesn't mean they should. There is no customer choice here in the equation as far as that is concerned. You either want to pay it or you don't. Luckily for me there might be a way that I am not going to be paying that extra $10. Just a fluke but hopefully it comes to fruition. Otherwise my tp2 has been solid and I can't imagine using anything else for the the price I pay. |

Re: New SERO Oct 1st
Fishpony, your idea is the same as mine except that I was trying to point out that the nicer car is actually using more gas. Sure from the perspective of us TP2 users and those who have basically the LAST high end smartphone that is allowed on SERO it seems ridiculous because using something like a Pixie or an Intercept will only result in similar if not less data usage. Sprint probably would've wanted to prevent TP2 and newer Windows phones on SERO as well...but that would result in many more upset customers. Since they allowed Windows Mobile phones, and Blackberries at the start of SERO (like the MotoQ and Treo phones that didn't use that much data), they continued doing so. But they saw an opportunity with the Android and Webos devices that didn't exist when SERO was introduced.
Yeah it would make sense for Sprint to introduce a data cap on these new phones without upping the price. However I'm sure they have a team of marketing analyst that is saying it is more profitable and popular even (because they'll just as likely going to get a bunch of people complaining about a data cap), to charge $10 more and throw in a few perks like AnyMobile. |

Stop complaining. IF YOU DON'T WANT TO PAY MORE THEN GO FIND ANOTHER CHEAPER PLAN. GOOD LUCK.

Re: New SERO Oct 1st
You know, Sprint could have just as easily said "Beginning on Oct. 1, 2010, we willbe discontinuing SERO plans. You will be contacted by an retentions specialist to be upgraded to one of our very competitive standard plans. Thank you!"
But they didnt. They actually give you the choice....."hey if you like what you have GREAT! stay with it. If you dont like the phone and or plan, we have an option on Oct. 1st. Call us and we can upgrade you for $10 more a month and you get Navi, and Any phone any time, plus Android devices." I think it was a class act that Sprint did this for SERO folks. Now, I dont think I will pay the extra $20 for the Evo or Epic, but I will probably pay the Extra $10 to get any mobile any time and navi. This also lets me get an Android or blackberry phone if I want. Thats just my $.02

So if you're here complaining about those that are complaining, what do you think you should do? (hint: it's highlighted) |
