You have the choice, stay with crappy phones on a 30 dollar plan or pay literally the lowest rate in the country for any new Android phone or WP7 when it comes out.
Exactly!

People are complaining for no reason. You can keep your current plan and device without issue. If you upgrade Sprint is under no obligation to sign you a new contract under your current rate! The $10/$20 charge is a nice discount over anything else on the market like muyoso said.

Prices only go up as time passes... You have to be stupid to think Sprint will leave SERO @ $30 a month when shelling out new devices. They need to cover their costs too.

Re: New SERO Oct 1st

People complain too much. A discounted plan for X number of employees can easily be made up elsewhere. A discounted plan made available to the entire public is not so easy to makeup elsewhere. Their costs of maintaining their 3G architecture are reasonably expensive. 4G has not made it to but a few markets yet, so these phones designed to utilize 4G data capabilities are instead using the 3G network. This means that they have to make upgrades to accomodate this extra traffic on the 3G network. This is where the $10 premium phone, not 4G charge, fee comes in. The $10 fee to upgrade to the new plan makes available all non-premium phones (i.e. EVO or Epic) now, gives you unlimited calling to any mobile phone on any network, and provides unlimited Sprint Navigator. If you take advantage of both things then your total will come out to $50 + taxes. I encourage you to find a Verizon Wireless package containing the same features for the same price. You can't even find a package available to new Sprint customers offering those features for that price, as EPRP costs $70 if you want to use an EVO or Epic.

Re: New SERO Oct 1st

As a SERO customer, I am very happy they are doing this. The only thing I dont like (and this goes for all plans, not just SERO) is the extra $10 fee for having a 4G phone (AKA EVO Coolness tax).

With that being said, if I were to get a 4G device, i still only end up paying $50 per month with is still cheap as hell I can't wait till October.

Re: New SERO Oct 1st

It's really great to hear this, but I am too impatient to wait until October.. I am getting the Epic in one week and ditching my SERO plan forever I will be sad to see it go, but I am looking forward to having the two year phone discount each year.

Why do you want to get rid if your sero? Are you getting on a family plan? That is the only way you can even get close to saving that much money. I hope that is the case otherwise you are crazy. Lol. I had sero and switched over to 69.99 plan with 10/24 discount and 20% from my job and if I knew about the oct. 1 deal I would have waited. I'm paying almost $45 more just to have the evo. Luckily I'm getting a family plan that only costs me around $32 per line with my work discount. I recommend you stay with sero till oct.1. That's alot of money you'll be losing especially since sprint no longer is offering the 10/24 option. Good luck on your decision. Let us know what you decide. Hey if you want I'll take over your sero plan.he he

Re: New SERO Oct 1st

Well my wife and I are both on SERO atm, but we both want the Epic or Evo, so I guess I will need to do a family plan. Honestly my work will pay for my family plan (but not additional lines).

Is the cheapest family plan with unlimited data the 130? that is way more expensive than I expected lol. I plan on staying with my company for years to come, but good lord that is expensive compared to our 60$ we pay now.

Can we not do one line and just add a line to it for 10$ a month? (plus premium data fees..) Do we have to do a family plan?

shit. lol

So, back to the ONE thing i gain for $10 a month... the "privilege" of paying $10 more a month for a phone im going to pay ohh probably $4-500 for anyway.

Yippie. This is really starting to sound "apple-ish"

maybe sprint should change their symbol to a apple with two bites taken out of it.
hell i don't even go over 5 minutes a month on my phone. ever since i've had my sero plan...i've probably used totally about 15 minutes out of my airtime. and i don't even use sprint nav at all. but i dont have a problem with the new premium SERO pricing. because like the previous posts said....it's still the damn cheapest plan ANYWHERE to get an iconic device activated on. if i were to upgrade to the Evo on my regular ED plan, i'd be paying anywhere from $115-$120 (taxes included) a month for all the bells and whistles for the Evo added. and if you compare it to having it on a SERO....it's still a minimum of $20 cheaper a month.

I suppose it's still a great deal, but I'm using a TP2 right now. It's a smartphone that has the capacity to use data as rapidly as any 3G android phone. Right now my plan includes more minutes than I use, unlimited text and data, and 7PM unlimited calling. As I see it, this $10 gets me navigation (which I don't want since I use Google and Bing for that). Eventually I'm sure all smartphones will be 4G, so at some point it's going to be a minimum of $50 for all of us.
As I see it, I'm not going to be using any more resources or bandwidth but my rate will go up 33% for the privilege of using an Android phone instead of WinMo.

What about Windows7 phones? Will they be allowed on the $30 plan?

Of course I know that hearing someone complain about paying $50 a month for an EVO seems pretty whiny if you just opted in for a full price plan, but if you are jumping from a $30 plan that gave you everything you needed, $240 a year more isn't great.
Then keep your old phone if you want your old plan!

I'm really sick of the word SERO, and I'm upset at this announcement which means I'm going to have to hear it more.

Re: New SERO Oct 1st

Ive played with the evo and compared it to my TP2 with MightyROM... IMHO its not worth paying $20 more a month ($240 more a year!) for a higher quality and more "stable" phone. More functionality is another thing.. but aside from a bigger screen and a solid OS.. i dont see any new functionality compared to mine. Dont want to go off topic, just giving my opinion.

Re: New SERO Oct 1st

Is this thing for real? It's not some bogus rumor right?

I have done some debating and I can not justify losing my SERO. I don't care if my company pays, if I ever leave I don't want to be stuck paying 150$ a month for 2 freaking lines.

Looks like I may be cancelling my Epic reservation Unless I can test the phone for 30 days and return it without losing my plan? Anyone know?
