Question: if you pay $450 for the phone - would you still have to pay for the $10/mos if you activated on SPCS?

I am not sure if this is serious or not, but if it is, paying for the hardware doesn't mean anything. Paying for hardware and service are two separate things. Not sure where you came up with that. Sprint doesn't give a crap what you pay for the hardware. If I paid $1,000 and you paid $1, we'd both be paying the $10

It's like saying if I spend $450 on a HDTV, would you still have to pay for HD service? Uh....YES.

I take issue with Sprint for forcing the issue under false pretenses. If there was some component missing from the plan that the new phone required, I can understand it. However, if you have unlimited everything already, for them to tell you the phone requires a new plan based on the data plan is untrue. They should just come out and say we want to get all you folks with good deals off your plan and onto a more expensive plan and we are going to do that by refusing you any decent phones down the road. At least it would be honest.
this is exactly how it has worked historically. remember when the blackberries required a RIM data plan? how about the first iphone data plan? or all the way back when phones started to use some serious data and data plans jumped up to match. they realize where the money is. they are not requiring you to buy a phone with a data plan. there are still feature phones that qualify for sero.
go price other carriers, you will find sprint still cheaper for most people. hell at&t charges a 30.00/month family texting plan.

I think this is different. There is no "Android" data plan. There is no "Pre" data plan. There is just the everything plan. I just got my plan (not SERO) 14 months ago. It has unlimited data. Sprint claims you need the EP for the data. I have the data. The TP2 and the Android/Palm phones do not use data differently. $35 more a month just so I can get a new smartphone? Crazy.

Obviously, Sprint can do what they want. However, what is the difference in my scenario and if Sprint were to come along and raise the EP $15 to cover 4G costs and you could not get a new phone without agreeing to a new higher priced plan, even though you have the current EP and don't care about 4G? How would you see it then? Data plans are just jumping up again, right?

I do agree that Sprint is still going to be cheaper, but not by a whole lot anymore and not if you look at what folks need. I don't need 1500 shared minutes. 500 or 750 would be plenty. Different price point.

i agree that i don't like sprint having only 3 everything plans. i just dropped mine to the 1500min though, and we use between 1000-1200 anytime minutes even with mobile to mobile, so it fits me.
if you don't care about 4g, don't get a 4g phone, there are still other phones coming out this year that won't be 4g, though I don't know that the specs will match the evo. maybe the 10.00 won't last, i hope it doesn't, but there is a price to pay for being the first of something.
it's funny what people will pay these days. my boss just bought an iphone 3gs 32gb, out of contract, though he was eligible for renewal in june.
have you looked at virgin mobile. apparently any sprint phone is going to work, but the phones won't be subsidized, and the plans are cheap prepaid, like cricket prices.

Yeah, I have never understood the premium folks are willing to pay for the iPhone and I am a mac guy.

My point is not whether I want 4G or not. It is the concept of forcing folks to pay for services they do not need or cannot use. I look at the everything plan the same way. Great if you use that many minutes and text like a madman. I am old, so I don't text much and most of my calls are to other Sprint phones, so I don't need the minutes. I need the data.

On a side note - Dude, your post was at 4:30 am and you are still up? That is some dedicated posting.

no offense but by your analogy, you are still paying .89 for a gallon of gas and are complaining about it.
they allowed you to get the tp2 because winmo is still allowed on sero. ZERO android phones are allowed on it. they are phasing it out. ride it as long as possible, then come join the rest of us in the real world.
Thanks for the advice. I did a little pursed lipp breathing and that seemed to have fixed it but I still won't pay extra. Plus, I'm not on a sero plan.

According to a local sprint rep I know (yeah, I know, I should hit him up for a sero plan) Knoxville is a ways off from getting 4G. Maybe I should move to Nashville.

Plus, for me (and a few others I've seen post the same) I have an Airave at home where I use my phone the most so 4G is moot ATM for me.

Re: Will you move from a TP2 to an EVO even if you have to Pay for Premium Plan?

i'm new to this, and my question will probably come up as stupid to most of you... but I currently have a TP2 with the SERo $30 F&F 500 plan. I"m thinking of upgrading it to the Everything Plus Referral Plan (i guess this is the "SERO" plan for the EVerything Data that is available to regular customer?) and add additional lines. Based on my calculations, as long as I have 5 lines under this plan, it's just $31 per line, which is basically the same as my current plan but now I'm no longer limited by the phones I can get and I can unlimited calling to any mobile anytime.

I really don't want to pay more than $30 a month, since I don't use that much minutes anyways, I'm only consider upgrading the plan to family because my brother and sister want to switch over from At&T and T-mobile.

I asked the Sprint Rep if I upgrade and wanted the EVO if I needed to sign onto a special plan for it or will the Everything Plus plan be compatible with EVO, and he told me Yes, I can purchase the EVO and use it with this Everything Plus Plan just not the "4g" function...

So my question is, what is this "4G" function?? Sorry, I don't know much about this stuff at all...

Just needed things clarified so I can see if it's worth it for me to abandon my $30 plan that I already have where I'm getting unlimited data and text/picture msg. Or maybe I should just open 2 more lines for them with Sprint duplicating the same plan that I currently have...
