Neither one produced even a single post with Opera in the title?? I got a million search results that had absolutely nothing to do with Opera.

It's no wonder there are so many posts telling people to search, they probably already tried it & gave up...........

Weird...at about minute 5, I would have given up and gone to Opera's website.

But that's just me.

So if they are posting a new thread, why aren't they seeing the similar threads automatically show up when they enter their thread title? Do we have to have new threads every single day about the blinking notification light, wallpapers, quicklinks, etc., etc., etc....Oh yeah, don't forget Opera.

I think this is the main reason you also see new posts everyday like "my question was ignored so I'm starting this new thread." It's because with a little bit of effort your answers can be found. The veterans of this site know this and are making you do your homework.

Re: why does the search here suck so badly????

When I type Manila 2.5 I get that nothing matching was found. The FORUM search doesn't like numbers, but the Google search gives back lots of good results. That is great that the forum offers their search, but you are saying we should use the google, then why have the forum seach. I do know that you can do specfic searchs, but make sure to not include numbers

Ok let me correct it then..new people have bad spelling/formatting and google needs to fix it up to make it english...lol

Of course this will not single handedly fix 5 posts about same thing..but it will contribute.

I thought this post was worth repeating. It should be posted somewhere everyone can see it and think of it every time they want to scare someone away by telling them to search instead of helping them......

It's easy to find something if you know where to look, or the right words to use. Like the guy who said he was able to come up with six pages about Opera, you still need to slog through those six pages to find an answer. If you need help with something chances are you don't know the right words to use.

If you really want to help someone, instead of telling them to search, try searching for them, then tell them how you did the search. This way we will all learn how to search better......and it's less rude!

to some people it matters more to them to belittle someone rather than help them, the things people will do for a +1...

last time I checked you get +1 for helping people, not belittling them..

Re: why does the search here suck so badly????

Iam going off topic but its related. I do notice people here are ready to jump , pounce, and attack whenever they get a chance. Sometimes its right, but most times its not. I get jumped on hammered.....its silly.. I just look at thier post to rep level and laugh. As far as search just use google and your better off. I warn everyone though the days of jumping on newbies is going to be over soon. The MODs have been quiet and patient, but soon there's going to be alot of bans if this habit continues. MODs already have noticed that alot of people are registering and not comming back after 6 or 7 post. MODs have noticed less developers are comming here and sharing freeware. Trust me , when it comes to newbies, just treat then with respect. What happened to being human beings,we where all newbies at 1 point and needed help.

Re: why does the search here suck so badly????

I actually did both a forum search & the drop down Google search in the particular instance & neither one gave me a satisfactory result. I do usually get a better result from the Google option.

I don't even know why the forum search still exists as it is totally useless IMHO & to make matters worse it is the default & all a new poster is likely to try.

I realize I could have gone to the Opera site, but why should I have to do that?? I knew the cab was posted here because I downloaded it from here when it first came out.

What was really annoying was when the search finally did give me something Opera related, but even though i typed in Opera Mini 5 at that point, it linked me to a sticky in the software section that was OM 4.2............

I search on different sites all the time at work with no problems whatever, but this is BY FAR the most worthless user unfriendly search I have ever come across....hands down.

A new poster is never going to figure it out in their first postings & then the a-holes here (like the one in this thread) will slam them for "not searching first" instead of trying to help.

Yes I agree telling someone to do a search first is HORRIBLE idea..reason being is lets say I am user 1..I post about notification icons..people tell me to search first..same for user 2, 3, 4, 5 and so on..

so when a user starts searching for notification icons like they should they get 5 threads about how they should search first with no solution...while telling people to search first is correct you don't realize that you are actually making things worse and are better off not posting anything
