why does the search here suck so badly????

What is so hard about that one? If you searched for "Opera Mini Cab" and got a thread labeled "favorite cabs thread", then there MUST be something in there about Opera Mini. Why not take a quick lookie into the thread and find out where exactly Opera was mentioned. Yes, the search kinda sucks half the time, but I have to admit, it DOES work when used right on some subjects.

check this out, I quoted "Opera Mini cab" in a search and on page one of search results there were at least 2 results directly related to the search... that CONTAIN a cab file. THIS -----> http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread...Opera+Mini+cab is the most relevant one (and obvious) . When it works, it works quite well. I WISH it would be that easy all the time. But then again, it's NOT Google.

Now that I have freshened up my searching skills and took another crack at it, it does seem to work well. But when you are trying to search for a specific problem you are having with your phone, it can be quite troublesome.

but yeh...there is a reason why google search got to the market share of the search engines they do today. And when searching vBulletin I never use the regular search..always Advanced Search.

I keep telling myself that I really should start using the advanced search but I never actually do it.

I have to agree that the default search on the site is pretty bad. I can use it and usually find what I need, but often I find myself using Google instead. My biggest problem with it is that it seems very inconsistant. I'll get great results for one phrase and usless crap for an almost identical phrase. I think it has some random number generator that it runs, if it comes up even good result, if it comes up odd you get a recipe for sugar cookies.

Using search is one of the biggest gambles here. On one hand you can find exactly what you want (in the title bar) on the other hand, you can get everything that you don't need. I remember I did a search here for "playing one game using two TP2's". Now, I didn't know they were called "bluetooth games" but some nimrod made it a point to use the "let me google that for you" link just to inform me that was the name of them. I truely understand the purpose of the search bar, but some people just take flaming too a new level. I mean, even if the topic has not even been discussed, some people still find a way to use this "let me google that for you" link. We all know how to search (that how I found this site), and we post new threads for a reason. But just because we have "smart" phones don't mean we know it all!!

There isn't anything wrong with "Let me Google that for you" as long as they check the results and they are valid and not random stuff. Some things are easier shown when linked to. As you said it yourself now you know that is called "bluetooth games"

If the response a person gives links to an answer thats fine..it is worse when someone gives no answer and just says go search for it

Was it helpful? Yes. Could it have been linked without the BS intro? Yes.

A lot of threads can be blamed on using the search bar, the flaming however, is user generated. Me being me, I took that post/link as a flame, tho the person that posted it meant it as a joke, it wasn't funny to me and got the thread removed and me banned for a week. (I used words that would make a pimp cringe) So even tho it helped, how that helpful info is delivered should matter. We post new threads because we cannot find it after searching, not to get flamed because we didn't search another site! And I don't expect any one to hold my hand the whole way through either, just point me in the right direction, but at the same time don't make a mockery of me due to my lack of knowledge on the issue I have a question on because obviously the search bar couldn't figure it out either!

Now that which you posted, I didn't take as flaming. The second link was the only link I received when I posted the question. Its all about the delivery!! But thats what this site is for: To educate an inform, regardless of how many times it happens. And I have received both from you sir, and for that I would say thanks!
