why does the search here suck so badly????
 

I just spent 20 minutes trying to find the newest Opera Mini cab (I never did find it & gave up in disgust)

I clicked where it says "search" up top & typed in Opera Mini. I tried both the "search the forum" & the Google search from this site.

Neither one produced even a single post with Opera in the title?? I got a million search results that had absolutely nothing to do with Opera.

It's no wonder there are so many posts telling people to search, they probably already tried it & gave up...........

Its not so terrible, but it would be nice to have google supported search like xda. I do really like the auto search function when opening a new thread.

I got mine copy right from Opera site. At least you were looking for something that has a site to go to the source on. lol

Just tried it..the regular search was completely off (makes sense since there is regular opera and its cooked into roms and etc..probably would have to do Title only search to get it right)

The Google search was fine

Probably the best way to get good search is via have members put Tags on what the topic is about...

There is a Google type search click on Search link on top, there is a dropdown for Google search

My first day in I tried to search for something, saw the results, vomited a little in my mouth, and started a post asking for what I was trying to search for, and got berated for it, and was told to stop wasting time and to search for what I wanted; it was sucha' bad experience I was never able to use punctuation correctly again

the search works fine if you know how to use it. by default the search here searches thru entire posts so thats why you got a bunch of seemingly irrelevant results, it picked up every thread where someone mentioned opera mini. try clicking on search, then "advanced search", change it to "search titles only" and you should be good, just gave me 6 pages of results with opera mini in the title

under the advanced search you can pick what forum to search. you can also select whether to search titles only or the entire post. if you do a titles only search for opera mini in the windows mobile software forum you'll find relevant threads.

I could be wrong but it seems like the Search Function has been changed a little in the past 3 months or so. It used to be more accurate and would show the word(s) u r looking for in the title and posts in a certain thread. I do agree, any time u ask for help u better mention u have searched hard to no avail or get your vasaline ready.
