come back in a couple of months then, when you can view embedded video and have this discussion.
once again, you are waiting for something that winmo can already do.

and like i said, i have nothing against android and if winmo7 is as restricted as the "leaks" says it is, i might switch. but since i don't switch every 3 months i can wait and see what happens.

This statement only proves my point about marketshare.

I rarely need flash on my phone so like brownhornet said I will sacrafice flash for the many positives of android. When winmo 7 comes then we can have a real discussion about OS' obviously not with you guys because some of you don't think winmo needs a change, even though iPhone has only 1 single phone and has been around for only about 5 years while winmo has been around for decades. That report salty put up is sad that winmo has lost marketshare to the iPhone is embarrassing with the head start that microsoft had. But yet he thinks that report is in his favor. That report definitely shows Microsoft needs a change of pace and fast.

geeks upgrade a lot (see iphone) and sign 1-year contracts max

there is not a compelling fully 3G android device on any carrier except tmobile (nexusone) at this time.

the problem android faces is by the time contracts for casuals are open there will be substantially improved competition from windows phones, nevermind iPhone.

palm is better for women & casuals than android

android is also basically free to carriers so if you can't sell FREE then what the heck can you sell?

Re: Who plans to go HD2?

i think our point is that you really haven't proved that android is better, only different and in some respects, worse.
it does not do everything that winmo does, yet....
you haven't named one thing that android can do that winmo can't.
yes, the nexus one and droid has better hardware, but that doesn't make android better.
the perfect test would be to take the 2 of the same phones, one running winmo the other android and video them side by side doing the same tasks. (i know, i am dreaming).

and it has nothing to do with being a fanboy.
name a better phone on sprint right now, than the tp2?

Did someone just bring the dying palm OS into the conversation? I'm not even going to discuss them. Android will have them beat in marketshare soon and that will be a travesty. The only way winmo will succeed is if they completely redo their os'. I know you joined the conversation late but salty was saying winmo 6.5 is just as functional as the newer next gen OS's currently out. Yeah 6.5 can do the samethings even more but the average things every OS does everything 10x easier and in less steps

Still waiting for that one example...

Man, I have never seen anyone talk so much without actually saying anything.

By the way- palm has almost 3 times the marketshare of Android right now. And that was while it was only on 1 carrier, and that carrier was SPRINT.

damn salty i'm going to go ahead and say your an idiot. you obviously don't understand marketshare and you keep bringing it up. How long has Palm been around. That marketshare you're talking about isn't only comparing the the new palm os, its comparing palms in peoples hands in general, old palm and new palm. you act like android isn't the most rapidly growing os, it was even posted on the front of the ppcgeeks front page a couple of months back, isn't this a winmo website? i'm going to give you an example of marketshare your brain might be able to understand. If i create a flying car and the next flying car doesn't come out for 20 years, even if i fully agree that new flying car is better then mine, the fact that i've been out for 20 years will allow me to keep my marketshare forever. Now if i don't upgrade my flying car soon the new flying car will take over my marketshare. android has only been in the game a short while and they still sell their 1st ever android phone in stores, so how the hell can they be close to anyone in marketshare, but yet you see android commercials all the time. the fact that android is even as popular as it is shows winmo desperately needs a change to stay in the game.

you must not understand everything, sms feature is easier and more vibrant looking, web browsing is a better experience on any droid, contact card, mms, thousands of apps which are easier, gaming, you name it, its easier on droid, google maps, search feature, marketplace, you name it, its easier on droid. like i said the only advantage winmo has is slingbox and skyfire. androids memory management is better, i can keep going. and the things that aren't actually better, just look better with android. I use google even when i had winmo so everything that google incorporates for winmo is 10x better on the droid.

Re: Who plans to go HD2?

i agree with both of you in that wm needs overhauling (see wp7) but also wm6.5 does not limit the average person buying a smartphone (in 2010+ more people will buy smartphones and do less with them then ever before except simply check facebook, email and basic browsing). HARDWARE (phones lack of cpu, program memory and internal storage) & CARRIERS limit smartphone users more than any phone OS does today.

remember carriers now force data plans on basic media phones... this means more dumb smartphone buyers

we all know WM6.x needs improving and wm6.5.3 missed the holiday deadline. none of this is particularly important long-term though, only makes for boring blogger fanboy debates.

Andoid is limited
WM6.x is limited
iPhone is limited (but easy for casuals)
Palm is limited (but easy for casuals)
Rim is now attracting casuals

we all see a pattern yet? marketshare is not a great indicator of anything either. iPhone might be the smallest marketshare (due to carrier & price restriction) in a few years yet the most profitable to carrier (att) and marketplace.

the better question is what will improve more substantially in late 2010 & 2011... android or windows phone?

you should hold off this conversation until next Monday when WP7 is said to be announced hopefully with some actual devices (although that seems more likely for summer)

i fully agree with you and will be going back to winmo 7 when they get developer support, i am a windows fan, but 6.5 isn't cutting it and i buy new phones every year. it will be a year before winmo 7 is worthy so until next year i'm fine with my nexus, this is the only point i'm trying to make, but salty is saying 6.5 is as good as the new os' when we ALL know winmo needs a change.
