Re: Alltel GPS with A-GPS - super fast lockon

I'm excited that this fix works for so many. I've just updated my Xv6800 with the MR1 update but did not let customizations run. GPS worked before on Comm4 with GPSViewer but very very slow to lock.
Ran the instructions to a T, but now when I try to run GPSViewer on COMM4 it tells me "Can not open COMPORT".
Any thoughts?

Re: Alltel GPS with A-GPS - super fast lockon

try loading up ur phone in qpst and make sure all the 'checks' are still there. if not, recheck all of them and write to phone again. then exit diag on phone and soft reset.

i think i saw somewhere there is issues with mr1 update. it blocks your gps, but there is ANOTHER fix/workaround for that.

Re: Alltel GPS with A-GPS - super fast lockon

Hey Shadow-tech, I'm new here to PPC and I followed your steps to get my GPS working. It works great!! Thanks alot. But my problem is not wether it works or not its the matter of my phone resetting itself after a min. of the GPS running. I have tried it in Google maps, live search and IGuidance and they all shutdown and restart my PPC 6800. I'm with Alltel and I suppose you are too and was wondering if you could help me out and direct me to my problem.

unfortunately the only thing i could recommend is a hard reset. do u have a 6800 or 6900? if u have the 6800 make u have the updated rom and radio. there is a link to it on my 1st post. make sure u are installing to memory and not storage card. if u do hard reset, do this try getting this working before u install any other applications. just google maps. try it out and see if it still does it.

Some navigation software uses a lot of ram. if you dont have much free ram and run turn-by-turn navigation software it could cause ur phone to reboot.

Actually, this must only update the IP for cellular locations.
There is NOTHING that can tell your phone where to "look" for satellites and find them faster. GPS sats are geostationary from what I remember. IF anything, the IP address give you a cellular location lock, which then provides a warm-start instead of a cold-start for the GPS received. (A good comparison for this is if you own a regular receiver, turn it off and drive 50-100 miles, it takes much longer to lock onto a GPS signal than if you turned it off, and only drove 2 miles.... as it still has in it's cache some of the locational info to start up on).

i can explain to u that u need to get ur lazy azz over to xda and READ. im not gonna explain to u any further what this does.

here i will even give u the link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=423231

if it doesnt do anything for u then u did NOT do it EXACTLY!

If u are not Alltel and u put Alltel PDE server setting in at QPST then u didnt follow my directions. all other carriers PDE settings are in post #2.

i will answer question. I AM here to help yall.

the last thing I will say is that people said the Verizon PDEserver went down for a few hours today and were having problems, but it is now back up.

LOL... I know, I'm long in tor tooth to be considered a noobie.
Though I just recently traded in my 6700 for a 6800.
And strangely enough, my GPS works awesomely now after do ing this fix.
Though my streak with Gremlins continues... as the GPS fix didn't seem to do anything for me for 2 days, now the change is obvious.

Ever since getting my 6800, I"m having the weirdest gremlin issues.
Must be the shadey way I got my 6800.

Re: Alltel GPS with A-GPS - super fast lockon

gps satellites are not geosynchronous. they are designed this way so they will work if u are in a canyon, saddle, or depression. (basically a low area surrounded by higher land) they will come in and out of view/range but that is better then not coming into range at all.

proof here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GPS
and here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medium_Earth_Orbit

this does tell your phone where to look for satellites, or more specifically, what satellites to look for. (what frequency to tune into).

there have been rumors that some people gpsone chip that is integrated into the msm7500 chip is bad. probably not true, but it has been rumored. more likely a software conflict with their oems.

if u interested in this stuff then download this zip file. I put in it all the pdfs i have read to get to this point.

Re: Alltel GPS with A-GPS - super fast lockon

Shadow,
I went back and uninstalled the HTC GPS Patch and now my COMM4 port and GPS works great. Sometimes I have to soft reset it to restore GPS, but it looks great when it works.
Thanks for your help,
Kevin
