Re: Alltel GPS with A-GPS - super fast lockon

I get satellites all the way across the screen of the phone with numbers in them and they come up pretty fast but they keep blinking off and then come back and I have to hit the sleep button on top of the phone or push the middle of the button on bottom front to sometimes get them to fix or go solid blue. They do go blue but not always. Is there anything else that can be done? Should I try and do the fix again and see if that helps? I know that it did help but just not like I thought it would with a fix whenever I turn the GPS on. Am I supposed to be able to get a satellite fix without priming? I am using Google Maps and that works but only after I prime with the GPSViewer program on Com 4. Any other suggestions or questions?

Re: Alltel GPS with A-GPS - super fast lockon

hmm.
did ur gps ever work before? before u put the pde server info in qpst? is ur gps working different then before? better or worse? are u out doors or inside?

what gpsone setting do u have? try gpsone=2 and try changing 'position calculation=mobile' in qpst.

Yes it worked before but like I said not every time could I get a fix and it still doesn't always get a fix. It is better as now it sees the satellites inside the house but better outside. I will try your suggestions and get back to you as to if it helped. Thank you.

Re: Alltel GPS with A-GPS - super fast lockon

kinda hard understanding u.

i do know that the gps can 'crap out' on you from time to time.

if you are using google maps and it says 'initializing gps' then you will need to soft reset.

if it says 'aquiring gps satellites (0)' then u have a different issue. ill try and help ya out.

you should be able to get a satellite fix without priming. but I have only tested out google maps and live search. live search used to require a primed gps to work. but after this fix it does not.

Re: Alltel GPS with A-GPS - super fast lockon

When I turn on Google Maps without first opening GPSViewer and then click on Use GPS it now says 1036 KB Seeking GPS Satellites (0)... IT is trying but not connecting with any satellites. The periods after the (0) are blinking on and off but nothing else is happening. Now I went out and looked at phone and it came up with a "Your GPS reciever is having trouble tracking GPS Satellites" I tried with the GPSViewer just now and it sees about 6 satellites but no lock or fix. The bars are only showing numbers and not the blue color that usually comes up when the GPS fixes on satellites.

The External GPS settings are set to Programs: COM4 Hardware: GPS Port NONE and Baud rate 4800 and Access: Automatically

Re: Alltel GPS with A-GPS - super fast lockon

Hi shadow, i am on Metropcs... is there a "none of the above" option on post #2? I used the verizon configuration because whenever i am outside my coverage i get the verizon roaming, so i figured verizion is the closest carrier to metropcs... But the tweak did not help me much. It seeks 4, 5, 6 sats but no locks. Gpsmode 2 or 4 doesnt matter... any advice appreciated. Thanks

Ok I'm not sure how to find what GPSone setting that I have but this morning I went into HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\SUPL AGPS and changed the value of GPSMode from 4 to 2 and then reset and now when I start Google Maps it takes about 10 sec to get 5 or 6 satellites and they are fixed and working. Before doing your tweek I changed this setting to 1 and it worked better but now I don't have to prime the GPS and it works good. I have tried it several times now and works everytime. I am also sitting at my kitchen table which makes it even neater as when I go outside I know that it will see more. Thank you for your help.

Re: Alltel GPS with A-GPS - super fast lockon

if u have gpsmode=1 then your phone will IGNORE this fix. gpsmode=1 is for standalone mode. It will not use the PDE servers with this setting.

so gpsmode=2 works for you now and works well, right?

some people are saying the alltel servers work even when they are on verizon. this leads me to believe that alltel servers are trusted. meaning basically anyone can use the alltel servers.

It does work much better but it is not completely right as sometimes it doesn't work at all and then have to soft reset and then it will find satellites. When it works it works really well. I noticed when I open Google Maps and click on My Location it will sometimes show me at the towers for Alltel and different ones at that. Not sure why the phone doesn't work every time. It probably is about 70% of the time working. Any other ideas?
