Error 1012: Data Provision

I encountered this error 1012 after upgrading my ROM to 2.17 today. I spent 30 minutes on the phone with Sprint Tech Support. They tried everything including a factory reset, but that did not immediately resolve the problem. Then, a few hours later, a different Sprint Tech Support person CALLED ME BACK! --And he knew what the problem was.

The problem is that the phone needs to do this data provisioning after a ROM install (or a factory reset) before your internet connection will work. If you try to connect to the internet before the provisioning is complete, then it RESETS A 20 MINUTE LOCKOUT PERIOD on Sprint's servers.

In my case, I created the problem myself by setting up "push mail" for my work e-mail immediately after the ROM upgrade. "Push mail" was trying (and failing) to connect via the internet. Each attempt reset the 20 minute lockout period and the attempts were more frequent than every 20 minutes -- therefore an endless loop of failures.

When the Sprint Tech Support had me factory reset the phone, it wiped out my "push mail" settings. While this didn't immediately fix my problem, I noticed about 30 minutes later that I could connect to the internet. After that, I set up "push mail" and it now works fine.

The second Sprint Tech called me back (which still amazes me) too late to fix my problem, but he was able to explain what happened, so I won't make that mistake again.

Hope this info helps in your case.

Can someone post the HTC_CM_guardian.lnk file. I have already removed the file with MemMaid and would like a back up I can keep on my SD card.

Well I'm not impressed with this update. I don't use bluetooth or my alarm on my phone so those possible fix's didnt help.

I still have memory leak issues, regardless of what programs I have installed. It start off around 17 and drop down to 12-13 before I reboot. I'm considering wm5 (which is funny becuase with m apache I just HAD to have wm6, lol)

Actually, I managed to clear up the 1012 issue myself by removing the battery entirely for ten seconds and then putting it back in and turning it on. Now it's working fine.

The phone volume itself significantly decreases. And I have it all the way up.

Sounds like you have your mind made up. Go.

I have 23.5 and haven't reset in several days. Haven't run a lot of programs, outlook, a couple of games and IE. I have Schen's HTC today running with emunutz's customizer and the random access for contacts.

I've been running 2.17 with 1.47.01 and PRL 60611 since Sunday morning (so 3 full days), and I have the following programs installed:

Windows Live Mobile
Windows Live Search
Office 6.1
Inbox Extender
HTC Task Manager 2.0
Google Maps
AIM 2.0
plus a few games.

I have experienced no lockups, no roaming issues, no memory leak, and taking it off the charger at 8:00am on Monday and today left me with 80% battery life by 6:00PM (before I was lucky to have 40-50% by 5:00).

So far everything is working well, although Sprint coverage is pretty good here. The real test will be going to Pittsburgh this weekend where coverage is mediocre.

Downloaded, installed, and am getting no internet access. Getting the 1012 or 1021 error. Called sprint, got disconnected the first time after 5 mins on hold, disconnected the second time after 25 minutes on hold and 5 mins with csr, and am currently on phone for 1hr 19 mins and counting with another csr trying all kinds of stuff to get it to work.

This rep is giving up and switching me to escelation.

Update: Rep say to wait 72 hours and then call back in to customer service and ask csr to 'look up my notes to see if they have been updated'

Hopefully, it will just start working again in 30 minutes, like rshartog. Here's hopin!

Update 2: Called back after 24hrs. Got a human after only 5mins on hold. Human says 'remove battery for 4 minutes, then try internet and tell me the error you see', I do so, and it works.

I'm currently running ROM 2.09, Radio 1.32.00 and PRL 60608. I don't use a Bluetooth headset, nor do I intend to. I'd love to upgrade to 2.17.651 to benefit from the potentially speedier peformance and better battery life, however, I will shortly be going on a long roadtrip south and I am concerned about the apparent roaming issues that have come along with this upgrade. My question then is, should I:

1) flash the 2.17.651 ROM without the radio that ImeCokeMan created and referenced on the first page of this thread, and stand pat with the 1.32 radio?

2) flash the HTC 2.17.651 ROM, then reflash just the 1.40 radio?

3) flash the HTC 2.17.651 ROM, keep the 1.47 radio and then update the PRL to 60611 and hope for the best?

I've never flashed a custom ROM, so I don't know how that plays into anyones advice. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

One added question - after flashing a new ROM, can I restore any part or all of a backup created using SPB Backup?
