Awesome job I just managed to set up the modem on my Mogul. Great job, It was very detailed, very well explained.
Works great and I am sending this message using my modem. The only problem I got on my PC is that there is an unknown “generic serial” driver.

Are you running XP? If so, then when Installing the drivers, it detects 2 devices, the "HTC Modem driver" and then the "diagnostics driver". At which point you will need to point to the C:\DRIVERS\32bit\XP\HTC Diagnostics Interface and once thats detected, it will ask yet again for the HTC USB Modem drivers located in the C:\DRIVERS\32bit\XP\HTC USB Modem folder.
If you failed to detect it and it shows in the device manager, just click on Update Driver and select these folders above to install it properly. Remember when it detects the HTC Diagnostics, you will then be asked yet again for the HTC USB Modem drivers!

Anyone successfully tether with win98/ME? I can't find a driver to save my life. I do have xp & 2000 going but would like to get an old laptop that only likes 98 or me. Any info would be appreciated.

recently converted to the wonderful world of WMWifiRouter and loving it !!!
if u can't find drivers for WModem, and you dont have Wifi on that laptop...
you could install activesync and use internet sharing, maybe?

Has anyone applied these hacks/registry settings, tethered, and gotten caught by Sprint? I'm especially interested in hearing of people getting caught after installing the newest ROM.

I'm stuck getting an "error code 680: no dial tone" on my laptop when trying to dial-up to my connection on my 6800. No matter what I do to try and connect, I'm stuck getting this error. I had it working for hours the first time I installed this, although I disconnected and re-connected a couple times to test it out. Please see my post on this problem I'm having. ----->Click here

Using a registry editor, navigate to the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\OEM\WModem" key, and set the "CheckProfile", "Multi-NAI" and "WModemDUN" DWORDS to a decimal value of "0". Remember to soft reset for the changes to take effect.

Yes, I have done both of those. I have checked those changes numerous times and I just checked them right now. I even tried the to connect again and I am still getting the same error code. I am getting a solid yellow indication confirming my connection and the blue light indicating sending data comes on and blinks while my laptop is trying to dial out, then I get the no dial tone error.

Try this....and your troubles should go away!! hopefully.

Disconnect USB cable from laptop and Phone.

Reset your phone.

Reboot your laptop.

Within Windows on your laptop, delete your dialup connection you previously created.

Recreate the dialup connection.

Launch Wireless modem on phone. and click menu Start.

Connect USB cable to phone and laptop.

On laptop double click the newly Created "dialup" connection.

Cross fingers!!
