Hardware is hardware, it can only support what is enabled for it to support. The T-Mobil link specifically says more than once the speed will be dependent upon the device.

"With HSPA+, customers will experience network throughput speeds that are three to five times faster than today’s 3G networks – with theoretical peak download speeds of 21Mbps (depending on device and other factors)."

Anyways, why the big argument? If this doesn't come to a head just email T Mobil and ask them? This isn't confidential information you can get a definite response.
I already asked tmobile and they said yes, they replied back to me on my twitter. Thats why they are the #1 company in customer service. Tmobile usa on twitter is the one who pointed me to that website.

Also it doesn't make any sense to argue because wimax maxes out at 10mbps with and average of 3-6mbps. Even if 10mbps was the very fastest my phone could do, at least with a network giving me 21mbps i can take full advantage of the 10mbps. No one on sprint will ever see 10mbps out of wimax currently the same way no one ever gets 3mbps on evdo rev a. the7thson your specs sheets you keep pulling up show the limitations of 7.2 which happen to be the limits of hspa. it doesn't show the specs for hspa+ thats why you keep thinking 7.2 is the fastest it can do, but it isn't. You do realize the gsm frequency over sease is different then the 3g frequency over here. being as the phone hasn't been released over here and hspa+ hasn't launched anywhere else, they have given the specs for hspa+ yet.

but you can see how that website is very vague about anything actually getting anywhere near 21mbps and that it DOES have a lot of qualifications on getting that kind of speed, especially on older devices. It is very nebulous and the wording is sketchy. Did Tmobile tweet right out that "yes your mytouch3G or other 3G devices CURRENTLY on the market can get 21mbps with their current hardware" or did they just say "yeah its backwards compatible see this vague site"?

I agree with you about the fact that "even so.... will be fast..." I'm just doubting current devices getting anything near 21mbps.

edit: I also would rather be on hspa+ than wimax, so we agree on that point, towers on walmart or not.

you are correct we will never see those speeds, but a hspa+ device will get faster speeds then wimax. My main point wasn't that the phone can even do 21mbps but it can do faster speeds then wimax.

agreed, hspa+ looks faster and better than wimax. and for the record I do plan to jump ship for the HD2 unless sprint releases a device almost the same or better.

do we know how good the coverage is on hspa+?

I live in a giant city so I just assume I will get good coverage, never been on tmobile so I'm not 100% on it, do you know anything about it?

you live in houston you will be perfectly fine, gsm does really well in metro citys that don't have mountains surrouding them like in california. check out your coverage on this map. hspa+ will work off or the current hspa towers, so it should be the same.

I just checked, yeah houston seems to have one of the best signals from tmobile altogether when it comes to voice and data. All dark calling areas and all dark data areas, good sign for you.

Re: Coming to the United States?

i agree with u guys... im jumping ship and swithing to tmble if sprint doesnt come out with something equal to or greater than the hd2 within 2 mos of tmbl releasing it. i dont really understand the diff between hspa hspda and hspa+ i just know they are all fast enough for me.
