Nope...7-10 day turn around through Asurion. And there is currently no acceptable substitute. However, if anyone does succesfully trade in for the Epic, please post how.

Re: EVO 4G Out of Stock (both Sprint & Asurion?)

I had a problem. Tell them you want to escalate the case and make sure they do. You will be talking to Kansas in short order. They have a special division for escalated cases.

If that does not work, PM me.

Re: EVO 4G Out of Stock (both Sprint & Asurion?)

Note that according to the coverage certificate, Assurion has 30 DAYS to replace your phone:

"All claims for covered Loss under this Certificate will be made good within thirty (30) days
after presentation and acceptance of satisfactory proof of interest and Loss to our authorized
representative and satisfaction by you of your Duties in the Event of a Loss. We will ship
approved replacement equipment or repaired equipment directly to you within the United
States; however, we may require..."

Similar issue here...water damage - phone is partially functional, touch screen is freaking out. Had to make an Assurion claim last week, they have been out of stock!

Unfortunately I sold my Hero so I don't even have a back up phone! Next time I'll hang onto my Hero...

Called Sprint to (nicely) complain. They don't have them either, but at least the very nice supervisor credited the $100 deductible to my account. Same supervisor will call around to see if something else can be done. I don't have any confidence that she will find me an EVO, but she at least is trying and the whole thing stings a bit less knowing that I don't have to pay the stupid deductible!

In the meantime I found a local shop that can replace the digitizer. I'm considering the ramifications of getting the repair. Assrurion doesn't want my old handset back.

Oddly enough the moisture sensor on my battery does not indicate damage...

Re: EVO 4G Out of Stock (both Sprint & Asurion?)

So, Asurion authorized me to swap for an Epic. Thoughts? I've never even seen an Epic in real life.

I just came home from the store. Wow, that is a sexy screen. I liked the keyboard too. Also, swype and physical keyboard is pretty cool combo. Also, they physical "android" specefic keys (home, back etc.) Is a nice touch. Its not that much smaller....16gb memory card....I have to look up battery reviews to see how long the battery holds up....but I might take the plunge. Timing is everything in life....I've enjoyed the Evo, but it might be time to give the Epic some love. I would like your biased opinions too

*start biased opinion*

Epic > Evo

We got a 1ghz Hummingbird processor thats 45nm (aka less battery usage), its also around 10-30% more powerful processing wise clock for clock then 1st gen snapdragon.

We have a 3-4x more powerful GPU then the Adreno in the first snapdragon

The camera is only 5mp but the sensor is better aka better pics and video.

The screen is 24bit color! and as you noticed very pretty...its made of Gorilla Glass.

Its easy to root and has this nice tool called Odin which makes it "ALMOST" unbrickable..

It has native playback for divx/xvid and many other formats..

It has 4g idle which make it use less energy while using 4g

*end biased opinion*

Some interesting things to note that are good and bad..

1) That shiny screen is a energy hog..kinda..it has its ups and down..if you use black on the screen..that wastes 0 energy..if you use white that wastes a ton of energy...formula for energy usage is:

1x=red
2x=green
3x=blue
6x=white

aka if you have a screen full red it would waste 6x less energy as full white..overall though by average expect about maybe only ~30min more battery life then say an evo on general usage...

To put it into perspective, if you were to remove RGB and only have everything in shades of red..you would instantly double your battery life.

2) Processor is not used at its max ability..realistically its capable of recording and playing back 1080p natively..that feature was locked it seems :/..720p works fine though...on some crazy settings..you can do max quality H264 encodes and it won't lag at all..

3) Video out via 3.5mm and usb was locked by Sprint ..devs are working on it...

4) Sprint locked access to Samsung Kies :/

Anyways I'll leave it at that, if you want more info come over to the Galaxy S section and I and others will be glad to answer your questions.

Re: EVO 4G Out of Stock (both Sprint & Asurion?)

That....is why we have these forums. Freedom of information that flows in all directions at the same time. I appreciate your feedback. When i get home today, I should have a new toy at the house...My Evo has been great and it's also been a perfect introduction to Android. I'm looking forward to learning about the Epic.

Thanks again!!
