UPDATED ROM's DESERVE THEIR OWN THREADS!
that way we dont' see old problems discussed uselessly at the beginning of
the roms thread. All the mods have to do is move the previous version
to a retired area. Is that too much to ask?

Re: Two versions of Evos {Updated Results}

I got 2 EVO phones on launch date and just now checked but I have both 002 and 003. The 003 still has the glittery battery cover just like the 002.

Re: Two versions of Evos {Updated Results}

I just exchange my evo had 002 now have 003. Main reason I exchanged it was because I was having the screen issue. I was having horrable battery life I guess I just had a bum battery because I can see some of the reports of battery life now that I could not believe before the battery life is night and day now for me. I am a much happier EVO owner and windows mobile switcher now

Can someone let me know what the difference are?

I have a 002 version of the device that I received directly from Sprint Telesales. Not sure what I'm "supposed" to be seeing, but the device works fine, no screen separation, i rooted last week, and otherwise, really okay.

So, anyone with any specific information about what is supposed to be different between 002 and 003 would be very helpful.

Thank you in advance.
If you don't see a problem with your own eyes then don't go looking for one. Just enjoy having thebest phone on the market today.

Re: Two versions of Evos {Updated Results}

I just came back from the Sprint store to compare my 03 Epson screen against an 02 model to satisfy my curiousity. Interestingly enough, my Epson screen looks leagues crisper, brighter, and much more correct/natural than the 02. An onlooker asked me what I was doing and after I told him he commented that it was not even close that my Epson screen looks far better than the 02. Yes the 02 had the purple tinge and the colors looked off. I am one happy EVO owner now as I have confirmed what I already suspected. I alrady found it hard to believe that the screen could look any better than what I had and saw it for myself. I don't want to say people are imagining things but my eyesight is pretty good and I was shocked to see how much brighter and clearer my Epson was.

I just went to the eye dr today and she told me that my eye sight actually improved from last time! So I'll be the judge of what looks better!

All kidding aside, I'm sure there is a difference. As someone else pointed out, the oo2 screen looked warmer and the oo3 screen looked cooler. Just changing the default settings on your monitor can show you what a major difference that 1 setting (from warm to cool) can make.

Also, like someone else said, just enjoy what you have! If you look for it, you'll find it. Just like with the TP, everyone had SO many issues that "their phones were unusable." But I still have my first original TP and it has 1 real problem, other than that it's just a phone that is limited by CPU. It's keyboard is the BEST btw

I'm curious to see if there are any differences on how the phone runs and the build quality. This will be a very informative thread if people respond.

You can tell by clicking menu < settings < about phone < hardware information.

The first batch has a hardware version of 002.
The new batch has a hardware version of 003.

Now with this being said, can people check to see which version they have and inform the rest of us if you are experiencing any issues at all.
Issues being battery life, wifi signal strength....anything of that nature. (Keep in mind that battery life is user generated, so don't give a detailed battery report. Just an approximate average battery life.)

Another thing to note about the different versions:

The battery doors are different. The old batch (Hardware version 002) have a light black door with a metallic/sparkle look to them. The new batch (Hardware version 003) has a solid dark black look to it.

I'll start out:

Hardware Version: 002

No light leak, no battery issues, wi-fi seems good. The 4 LEDS stay off when phone is off. Battery life is around 20 Hours of normal use.

UPDATE: Pictures of different backs. Source: Myn at XDA Developers. I take no credit, all credit goes to him. First picture is 0002, second appears to be 0003 or later.

RESULTS FROM 21 PAGES:
In Excel screen capture.

Results seem very similar besides the ones highlighted in red.

Apart from these results, some users mentioned the power button is different on 0002 and 0003. I believe it is more flush on 0002. I cannot confirm this because I do not have both versions.
your evo.jpg shows no 003 versions with battery covery problems. i have the 003 and my battery cover is lifted on one side driving me crazy.

That's what my replacement has too. Can't stand it. They're sending me another. Have them send you a replacement if it bothers you.
