Re: EVO Full Root & OTA ROOT|Recovery|Nand Backup/Restore|Flashing| for n00b's + Vide
I saw some earlier posts where people were having issues getting past 5z..I have read the posts, reloaded the rootintg OTA file (unzipped and moved the 5 pieces over to my sd card--root of sd card) and yet I still cannot get to recovery boot..I get an error that says
mtd: erase failure at 0x0038000 (I/O error) mtd: skipping write block at this keeps on repeating until is says No space left on device # |

Just a guess but... Are you 100% postitive you TYPED the code lines EXACTLY as written? Dont cut/paste them in. The spelling, spaces and symbols need to be exact.

The issue is either the OTA files or your attempt at installing the recovery.img. You are at the last step which allows you to boot into Recovery, it is not functional as there are other ways to get this done. You can use ROM Manager to install the Recovery for you (assuming that your issue is user error and not something wrong with your setup). For now you can get to the Recovery screen by running the batch file that comes in the evo recovery folder when you select Recovery from bootloader. If any of that is over your head let me know via PM and I'll try and 'splain it better. Last edited by iknowsquat; 07-10-2010 at 02:06 PM. Reason: clarity |

What's in a name? That which we call a genius by any other name would be just as smart. I beat up Sprint and all I have to show for it is this lousy When you were in diapers and wetting the sheets I was out hacking with the ppcgeeks. |

Ok so...I ended up taking my phone & microusb to Sprint today...they swapped my cord...I drove home like a maniac...and apparently that was my problem!! If my cord wouldnt have crapped out on me halfway through...I guess I might have gotten it to work the first time! I restarted the process from the begining though just to be sure that my bad cord didnt botch any of the first few steps.
Thank you sooooooooo much for all your help!! If I could click the thank button I again I would but it only lets ya click once per post... Now...Im running the rooted stock 1.47...next I need to figure out how to remove the Sprint bloatware that I dont use/want. |

Changing your name to "Thread Jacker" or leaving it as is, since both are very fitting. Simperoot is far from perfected. If it works for some great, but in 3 days since it's been posted, it's had over 500 responses. Most of those are issues. The method I described is fool-proof as long as people follow directions. Simple root doesn't work for everyone on every configuration. The original method by toast that I describe works for everyone in every situation if they can follow directions. I have yet to find one person that had an issue that wasn't user error. Even if it's just a corrupted file when they download. Now do us all a favor. Leave this thread and start screwing-up the Simpleroot thread on XDA.
