Yeah, I think the process will error out if you include tasks. I don't think its supported.

So is there anyone out there who has their contacts organized into catagories and got those catagories to sync with gmail somehow?

I know Google has "Groups". It does grab the Notes section of the contact, so I assume it'd store the category as well in the Groups...not sure though.

So how would I go about making it store the catagory as a group? I really don;t care what they call it, as long as it works, lol.

Yeah, gmail has all my contact notes, contact pictures, and all of the fields. The only thing it didn't bring over is the contact catagories (and it didn't convert them to groups either, I can't see any evidence than anything was even in a catagory at all when I look at gmail), and ti didn't bring the calendar or tasks either.

When you are looking at your contacts in gmail, there is a button for adding a group (it should be above the text for "My Contacts", on the left hand side of the contacts window). After creating your group (name and all), you go back to your list of contacts, and you can click the check boxes next to all the contacts you want in that group. From there, click the dropdown on the right, with "Groups" (next to "Edit"). Select your group, and you are good to go. Repeat for all your categories, and you should be back to where you were with WM.

Yeah, I know I can recreate them. The problem is I have over 500 contacts myself, and then there is the wife and kids too. I don't want to recreate everyone contact list (or reorganize it, whatever). I am hoping to have as seamless a process as possible so when I buy 4 of these phones it just works for everyone.

Re: Contacts and calendar from WinMo to Evo?

yeah... I have over 5,000 contacts (business phone) and will probably only make the switch if I can have a Outlook to Phone direct sync (via cable is fine) that syncs contacts and at least one calendar. If anyone knows of a product that does this, spending a few bucks is really not an issue. Functionality is.... Thx.

Google easily syncs contacts and calendar. The only problem is its not syncing categories. No cable required. You can use outlook or exchange to transfer contacts and calendar.

Re: Contacts and calendar from WinMo to Evo?

Okay, so I understand that I will need to create a google mail address for most things/apps for this phone. Not an issue.

My issue is, will I have to enter all the contacts that are on my phone into the gmail then transfer it to the Evo?

There really has to be an app or something like sktools, dashwire, some other back up software i can use? Mine are not all email address, mainly just names and numbers.
