I just ordered the Z9, but check out these "small ear" tips for the Jawbone: http://www.everythingicafe.com/forum...git-11746.html

Oh man, the guy on that forum called it a Jabra "hack"... this is getting bad when we consider swapping out an earbud a "hack"

But..... it looks like it worked for several people!

Last year I bought a Plantronnics BT head set. I can't remember the model and I bought it at Randio Shack. It was hugh and mounted behind my ear and was nearly as big as my ear. The mic was probably 4 inches long and had a phone covered tip. It had suffered and I had black tape on it to stiffen it.

I finally decided to replace it and went back to RS and asked for their best Plantronics. I paid top dollar for a smaller device with gel tips and the mic is only an inch long.

The difference??
With the old headset, I have accidentally left my phone in the jeep and have walked into the house while talking. It was nearly 40 feet before the talk broke up.

With the new headset, I sometimes have to remove the phone from my belt and hold it by my head to reduce the crackling. I'd love to get another of my old gawdy headset.

Such is progress.

Got the Z9 and love it, very clear. Haven't used it outside yet, but so far it's way better than the Plantronics I had.

Yepper...Definitely hear the white noise. It's considerably less at the low to midrange and then steadily increases with higher volume.

I no longer have other units to compare it with, but perhaps it's midrange volume might be equal to other unit's high range volume. In which case it would make sense that it would have higher static on the upward spectrum.

It doesn't work for conversations but I know with audiobooks all I have to do is turn the volume way up on the phone and way down on the unit and it eliminates all background noise and maintains a rather loud volume.
This could indicate a software issue because it works for one application "audiobooks" and doesn't work for another "phone conversation".
Luckily both the phone and the unit is upgradable. Perhaps someone can find previous firmware updates for the unit and test the differences so they can determine if the downgrade tradeoff's might be worth it pending if the hiss is gone.
Also, if it sounds the same on different phones using different bluetooth stacks then at least you can rule that out.
Too many variables for me to waste time testing.
I rarily require it to be past midrange volume so in typical use I don't notice any white noise. Doesn't effect me at all.
I'm lovin' it. almost could just eat the yellow wax off of it... mmm mmm

Oh yeah it's a late miller night here in jawja

LOL, that sounds like the voyager 510. good luck finding a better headset than that!
Frys will have the bt8040 on sale for $50, so I guess I'll break down and buy it myself.

Z9 vs 510

I may have missed this reading thru the 9 pages. my question is there anyone that has both the Z9 and the 510? about a year ago I went threw every head set best buy had testing and returning IMHO most a junk. however asid from size the 510 that i ended up with has been Great. my question is the Z9 good enought(compared to the 510) to even try?

I currently use a 510 and have a Z9 on order. I'll report back when it is delivered and I get a chance to use it for a while. I'm hoping the increased noise isolation, smaller size, and being able to pair with three devices will work as advertised.
