I would lose all of my apps and everything else right ?
Can't I just download the beta 6 and try to jailbreak the phone again ?
btw, what are the steps in doing a "full restore back to stock" ?

well if you backed up thru iTunes you're fine, if not you may lose some apps.

you can try just re-doing it with beta6 then restart, it won't hurt anything.

To do a restore just download the IPSW linked in the OP then hook into itunes, hold shift and then click update (or restore) then select the IPSW file and it will flash the stock firmware 4.2.1

Same problem - no cydia.....
Maybe I picked the wrong jailbreak to be done using redsnow when it asked if I had a newer version of the 3GS
My serial number is 87950X4J3NR so I said yes that I had a newer 3GS because the 4th and 5th digits were 50.

It is the newer bootrom. I tried to id it as an older and redsnow detected it as being a newer version.
It is also asking for a 'ipsw' file, and I'm guessing that's the 4.2.1 IOS that I downloaded to update my OS with, correct ?

I was running a few apps and all of a sudden a window pops up saying that I'm running out of disk space - I've got a 3GS 32gig....with 25gig free according to 'Itunes'....
could that be related to the 'cydia' not coming up ?

I also noticed that 'safari' won't come up either...

probably. I'll do some research on it and see what's going on, seems to be working for others.

I noticed in the redsnow program that it never mentions when to release the 'home button' in the 3 step process, or am I supposed to know to release it when I see the script running ?
When I see the script running I release the home button.
