Re: [How To] Essential jailbreak/unlock/ssh thread!

Ok great....I updated my IOS to 4.2.1 and then got the jailbreak to work.

next problem, 'Cydia' won't come up on the phone...it has a white-ish icon.
I tried the jailbreak again - no change...

what do I do now ?

thanks...

Re: [How To] Essential jailbreak/unlock/ssh thread!

After the IOS update, and the jailbreak - a lot of my icons are missing, even the ones from the Apple App store.
Do I have to sync my phone to get these back ?
I can understand losing the apps from 'cydia' since that has happened before.

thanks..

Re: [How To] Essential jailbreak/unlock/ssh thread!

the link I posted was beta4, looks like the iPhone dev team has just released beta6 so I re-linked the OP redsn0w.

Hopefully you backed up everything before doing this. I would do a full restore back to stock, then try again with beta6, then restart the phone.

Let me know if everything is as it should be. Since you're on ATT I wouldn't mess with the baseband (you probably already know this)

Re: [How To] Essential jailbreak/unlock/ssh thread!

I would lose all of my apps and everything else right ?
Can't I just download the beta 6 and try to jailbreak the phone again ?
btw, what are the steps in doing a "full restore back to stock" ?

thanks..

well if you backed up thru iTunes you're fine, if not you may lose some apps.

you can try just re-doing it with beta6 then restart, it won't hurt anything.

To do a restore just download the IPSW linked in the OP then hook into itunes, hold shift and then click update (or restore) then select the IPSW file and it will flash the stock firmware 4.2.1

Re: [How To] Essential jailbreak/unlock/ssh thread!

Hi,

Same problem - no cydia.....
Maybe I picked the wrong jailbreak to be done using redsnow when it asked if I had a newer version of the 3GS
My serial number is 87950X4J3NR so I said yes that I had a newer 3GS because the 4th and 5th digits were 50.

thanks..

Re: [How To] Essential jailbreak/unlock/ssh thread!

It is the newer bootrom. I tried to id it as an older and redsnow detected it as being a newer version.
It is also asking for a 'ipsw' file, and I'm guessing that's the 4.2.1 IOS that I downloaded to update my OS with, correct ?

thanks...
