the only issue i have which is the big deal breaker in all you said is that... apple wants to make sure that you don't jail break your phone. by doing bimonthly updates, and stuff like that. yea... there are ways around it... but in the end... its so much more of a hassle. i mean... when we flash winmo roms... its not like all of a sudden we can't plug in the phone to our computers. or fully utilize the syncing of itunes to it. AAAND as I said before. in the case that you have an ipod, or an ipt. then what?

oh... but i do like your unbiased oppinion. again... its nothing against the iphone... its apple all together.

ps... remember when jailbreak first came out, and apple made the itunes brick the phone if you sync'd?? yea...
Yes, Apple seems to have this grudge against jailbreaking, but if they would have included some functionality, there actually would be no reason to jailbreak.
I know people who are happy go lucky without jailbreaking their iPhones. Me on the other hand, the main reason I jailbroke mine was to have a background image behind the icons instead of a plain black screen. Then I found all the other posibilities due to jailbreaking.

At the same time, if Apple included all the functionality from the get go, then they would not have people by hook line and sinker with the updates and new firmwares and new hardware versions of the phone.
They get somebody hooked on the iPhone and some people will go out and get the newest one first day cause it's a better version than the one they already have and love.

no, maemo is an open source os built on linux. its currently on the nokia n900. check it out in some videos. to me it seems lalmost like the perfect balance between computer and phone, its a very fluid and pretty os but still retains functionality

This becomes annoying when I jailbreak my phone to run a gameboy or nes emulator, but then I still have to hook the phone up to a computer to get ROMs because I can't download to the device!?!?!

Also, while the multitasking implementations on a jailbroken iPhone are "pretty," (multiflow w/ backgrounder has a nice interface, much like the Pre) the functionality is not reliable. For those of you that have used an iPhone you know that not all programs will reliably run in the background. For instance, I have backgrounded games so I could pause and send a message only to find out that the game did not keep running but decided to close.
You can download what ever you want to your Iphone using Torrentula, and/or Safari download Plugin, and Safari download Manager located in cydia....

Also you can respond to texts while in a game by using the QuickReply program located in cydia..

I havent hooked my Iphone up to a computer since I jailbroke it as I dont need to, becuase I can download whatever and install or extract using iFile, or a program similar... So I wouldnt agree that you need a computer around more for the Iphone.. Its about even in this category if you get the right programs...

Re: Why does everyone hate the iphone?

I don't personally hate the iPhone. I actually like Apple's idea towards the iPhone. It's hardware is surely nice and I like the piano black finish of the 3G S. I hate it because in order to say... multitask, you have to jailbreak it... something which could void your warranty and will end up making your device slower than stock. I hate Apple's limitations to the device. It's a workhorse and the UI is nice, but I don't see the functionality of just having one application available. Although, there could possibly be an app for just about daily needs, half the apps out there in the app store are useless. Just fun little toys to make your iPhone take memory. Also ATT is a money rip off. I'm not saying that Verizon isn't one either, but Verizon has great service.
The only thing I discourage about Verizon is the pricing and the data plans. But you get what you pay for I guess... but seriously, I wanted a Touch Pro and couldn't receive it because of the 30 dollar data plan. So then I got the Vogue. But I'm glad that it introduced me to the world of Windows Mobile. Palm OS is horrible.

I'll give a few of these programs a whirl. Thanks for the heads up. However, I can reply to a text, great, I need a special program to do this. What if I want to do something else and backgrounder doesn't successfully background the program I'm currently running? Cydia blows by the way, amazingly slow. Have you tried Rock?

Re: Why does everyone hate the iphone?

wow this thread is giving me a headache, what's the point here? Are we trying to convince each other why they should or shouldn't like the iphone with subjective reasons? Seems like a fruitless endeavor. Seems the pros and cons have been as well expressed as can be, now it just depends on what you want out of your device.

Re: Why does everyone hate the iphone?

I like the iPhone cuz it generates threads like this and it's amusing to read everyone getting their panties all in a wad... see, that's not already on the list (I don't think)
