One thing I have to admit though, is that the iPhone definitely raised the bar for everyone. Out of the box, it was fairly easy to operate and the safari mobile web-browser was done extremely well.

The entry of Apple into the mobile market was great for the consumers. We now have more choices and BETTER choices than ever before! =D>
You are right, the iPhone did raise the bar. Heck the "smartphone" market was kinda lacking until the iPhone, then BOOM BANG it's become the norm.
THere was another thread in here talking about a feature of smartphones is the ability to customize it? I would have to disagree, a smartphone is a devise that provides more than just phone calls/texts...like appt keeper in the calander; e-mail; and a slew of other productivity like functions.

1 Multitasking. You can talk about backgrounder all you want, it does not give the iphone multitasking abilities. This is something that you THINK it can do which is incorrect. I've seen it in action and you have admitted yourself that you have not used it. Backgrounder only works for a limited selection of apps and doesnt even work consistently with those.

2. Spare battery? Nope

3. Tethering and MMS? Yes, but only if you want to run the risk of having your service canceled by ATT and owing them the remainder.

4. Multiple UI's? Nope

5. Flash Support? Nope. Wanna preview hotel rooms at the Mandalay Bay using their virtual walkthrough, too bad iphone users, just one of the millions of sites that require flash player to interact with or even view the site. Have fun with your watered down internet experience.

6. WVGA screen? Nope, HVGA = Lose

7. Choice of carriers? Nope. Apple will just stick with pretty much the worst service provider with the crappiest coverage. It should be ok though, they can rely on advertising and lack of consumer intelligence to sell units.

For future reference I can link you back to this post when you once again ask for confirmation of the things the iphone can not do. At least the iphone does have the app store in its favor. Who couldnt use 65,000 useless apps like fart noise makers and magic 8 ball's lol.
1. Somewhat annoying, yes. But it does keep multiple tabs open in Safari at one time which is the biggest thing, IMO. It really is an exaggerated issue by WM users. All of that multitasking on PPCs slows it down as well as kills the battery. You can argue it all you want, but those savvy with PPCs know exactly how to get to their Task Manager quickly to kill apps. That was almost as annoying as not having multitasking.

2. http://www.mophie.com/juice-pack-air...a-ip3g-blk.htm And there are many other options out there as well. (Please dont come back with 'well that makes it all bulky!'. It can also be used as a case, and plenty of extended life batteries for PPCs are huge as well.)

3. MMS already out, tethering just a matter of time. And I might add, the MMS integration into Text conversations is very sweet.

4. Lol. When it is as seemless as the iPhone is, you don't give a rats a$$ for multiple UIs.

5. I can't preview hotel rooms! Brutal! How many PPCs don't have Flash? I don't really miss it much.

6. Lol again, how many PPCs have WVGA screens? Very few. The iPhone's screen looks incredible. It's big, crisp, and some of the apps look phenomenal.

7. You have a point. But everyone hates different carriers for different reasons. I hated Sprint because their phones were ****. And their customer service was t-e-r-r-i-b-l-e. I'm not a fan of AT&T by any means but have had good luck with them so far. Keeping fingers crossed.

Let's jump on over to what sucks about PPCs...

1. Buggy. You're lucky if you don't have to soft reset your phone once a week let alone once a day. Don't even try to lie, I was using different variations of them for six years before I switched.

2. Apps. Windows might catch up down the road. We'll see.

3. Just not as fun. Plain and simple. Both platforms offer relatively the same things, just one is a blast to play around with and one was relatively boring.

WM devices are great. I really enjoyed the HTC 8125, Treo 700WX, and HTC Touch Pro. Defintely, the customization factor is cool.

That said, the iPhone is so smooth and so appealing. I have a blast on this thing. It has it's limitations like every cell phone does, but for what you get, it can not be beat. And that of course is my humble opinion.

Note: I have the $59.99 minute plan with $30 data and $20 SMS, and I get 900 anytime minutes combined with ATT's version of 'fave 5' which gives you 10 numbers you can call as much as you want.. $109.99. $10 more than Sprint's Unlimited plan. And I paid $99 for an iPhone 3G.

on my sprint touch pro/alltel touch pro and on my verizon touch pro 2, I've gone 2 weeks without a soft reset or a clean ram...surprisingly with the latter a stock rom. I have to say that is amazing!

applications - 3rd party software that can enhance the experience on a pocket pc...uhm...
windows has had cabs for years and considering that windows mobile has established 3rd party manufacturers and developers that produce cabs daily, windows is doing very well.

granted, we may never see a that's what she said app, but I'll take a throttle launcher, pocket player, coreplayer, tcpmp, iris browser, dorothy browser, opera browser, bolt browser, adobe photoshop mobile, and a panoply of others. Form fit function; windows doesn't have many joke apps granted but it has apps that enhance the user experience...isn't that more important? I mean heck iphone has been out for 3 years and you still have the SAME browser for it...wtf!?

this is just personal opinion, but have you seen my iphone boredom thread? I find it completely boring! And I do have the "fun" games and I am absolutely annoyed and bored. Primarily this is due to the on screen everything. Movement in games sucks, control of games sucks, emulation of games isn't that much better...

I think we gravely disagree on what we consider fun. I will say apple had my interest with zenonia, but now its out on windows mobile and now the iphone continues to collect dust

And yes I have an iphone I hate it! It will be my friend's gift in november

Ah but how many batteries have you had that actually had gone bad? I am not saying it doesn't happen, but in my experience have only had one battery go bad with a cell phone, and that was my wife's orginal phone with sprint, it was an LG something.....all the smartphone/PocketPC phones and such that I have had, I have never had the battery go bad.
If my iPhone's battery does go bad, yes I would either have to send it away or find somebody that does repairs on it and see if they can replace the battery.
Copy and paste issue - by default, not long but there were ways to add it if it was jailbroken.
As far the your co-workers, to me that might be more of a carrier issue (unless you all use AT&T) and even then it doesn't really matter cause I have seen some strange situations with cell phone signals.

Re: Why does everyone hate the iphone?

A battery does not go 'bad' it degenerates over time and the cells do not charge as much. Just wait 2 years, then you will notice the battery will carry less charge, then you're gonna have to send it in, either to apple or someone else, either way the phone will be out of your hands.

Also the iPhone's screen SUCKS, my diamond is 640x480 and is more than half an inch smaller therefore more DPI, therefore you can read small text alot more clearly. The only reason why some apps look good is because there is an eye candy factor involved (graphics, gradients, etc etc), windows mobile tends not to have that because it (and developers) tend to favour functionality, not how nice an app looks.

But like it was said earlier, if you want something that just works, go for an iPhone. For me though, I like tinkering with stuff until its just the way I want it.

Also iPhone doesn't give you choice, you can only pick one model, which in my opinion is retardedly wide, which makes it feel clunky and like an older phone.

I do see this as an eventual downfall. This has to be one of the reasons why Android is projected to do so well in the next year and a half to two years... options and the ability to make it personal and yours. Bottom line, my iPhone is effin boring and its just like everyone else's. I am looking forward to swapping the screen, mine broke and I think it will be kinda fun to take it apart.

THe option to make an iPhone truely yours is there. Given not right out of the box (only thing you can set is the wallpaper for the lock screen). Jailbreak the phone and you can make your own themes or download others and such.

Yes other devices you don't have to "hack" the phone for that, but honestly how many people here tinker around with non-stock ROMs? Earlier versions of Mobile Shell was a matter of actually replacing the standand files (not sure about theme setting on the most current version of Mobile Shell).....
As a previous PPC phone user and now an iPhone user, once I jailbreak the iPhone once, I don't need to do it again unless I want to update to the newest firmware. Custom ROMs on a PPC, everytime you wanted to try a new one you were hard resetting the phone.

So the difficulty level of customizing bother phone are pretty much the same.

I am not knocking either type of phone, I love them both. And I said before they both have their pros and cons that make them great phone and fucntions and abilities that it's like "I wish I could do this with my phone"......

I do know how to get to the task manager to close apps, and I love having the option to end the programs when I want them to end instead of having to close them to check something else. I've opened task manager on occasion and had as many as 9 programs running at once and still have 30% memory left.

Some of the extended life batteries for PPCs are quite large, those are the ones that nobody buys lol.

I made that post BEFORE they made MMS available on the iPhone, but to be fair, the iPhone does have MMS now. Welcome to 1998.

Really? If you like companies making your choices for you thats fine, but I prefer to have options. I cant argue the fact that the iPhones entire OS is seamless, because you would have to have something with more than one piece to even have a seam lol. The iphones OS is basically just an app launcher. Ultimate Launch, which is just one available application on WM, is basically the same as the whole iPhone UI.

Thats really a pretty weak rebuttal, if you can even call that a rebuttal. At the time I posted that, that was just the most recent example I had experienced so I mentioned it. Just earlier today I was trying to show someone a clip from collegehumor.com on his iPhone but all that was available was the little blue lego block, so I had to show him the clip on my Vogue. I'll go ahead and be specific for you and mention that these are NOT the only 2 things that you cant view online with an iPhone, there are an infinite number of sites that rely on flash. Ya. Brutal.

How many PPC's have WVGA? Pretty much every WM phone being released now lol (TP2, Imagio,Omnia2,OmniaPro,HD2, and probably some others I'm forgetting)

I have to agree on all of those, especially on the iPhone being relatively boring
