I have great signal around here. Is there a way to update the service area or whatever? I have Verizon, and I always have had 4-5 bars service almost everywhere, and it only does it with these custom ROMs.

Have you dialed *228 and used option 2 lately? This updates your tower info. I always do option 1 (which also does 2) after a flash, just to be on the safe side.

Contrary to what most people believe.. this does NOT get you better service in areas where you may have a low number of bars. Just want to clear this up right now.

You right and I am, partially, corrected. It can improve signal, but usually only with roaming. Better than Verizon's FAQ, a poster on another site put it this way:

It does improve reception if VZW service is bad in a place and they add another provider as extended, or change positions of preffered network for the phone to prefer better/stronger networks.
It can help, but does not help with native VZW service unless they change/add a VZW SID or do something along those lines.
It CAN improve service and makes sure the billing system and the phone are on the same level, meaning the phone will be accurate as to how the billing system is programmed.

It simply updates the roaming capabilities and syncs your plan info with VZW. I still maintain that it is a good idea to do periodically, but it is not the panacea I had previously thought it was.

Just an update on the pagepool experiment I was running. I have decided to leave the pagepool set to 6MB. It works well for me. There is just a hint of lag in the Sense UI and my memory usage after about 24hrs is anywhere from 72% to 78%. I'm happy with the results here. Next time I reflash I may bump it up to 7MB or 8MB but as long as everything is working well and I can still open up all the apps I want without running into the "Insufficient Memory" error, I see no need to keep messing with it. I suggest trying different settings yourself and see what works best for you.
