Did you try running quick gps first?

I've tried quick GPS and the HTC GPSTool. It seems to work temporarily but I can't get a fix after a soft reset.

No, not usually. Some of SPB's products you do, but most you don't. If it was already installed to your SD, just go to that program folder and use Total Commander to make a shortcut to the .exe in your Windows/Start Menu/Programs folder. Like I said, works on most, but not all.
