Nope, and sprint isn't saying that either. They're saying if every single user used 5GB or less a month, they're good.

It's probably much higher, likely in the hundreds of GB/mo, where the costs cross over from profit to loss.

It's an issue. I don't think Caps are the answer. Tiered pricing may be (not unlike voice) where you get so may GB/mo for your plan, and then you pay something reasonable per GB over that.

I just think its crap that those of us who PAY them for the ability to use the data on our laptops and desktops are being penalized while those who abuse the data plan on their cell phone to do so aren't. That's my main complaint with it.

But w/e. I stopped downloading linux ISOs at work so I don't even come close to the cap now anyway.

man this sucks, i don't download alot but i do browse online quite a bit. i may get rid of sprint now.

And go where? The only one who doesn't have a cap is Alltel and both at&t and Verizon charge overages while Sprint currently does not.

Besides, if you hit 5GB with just browsing... well, I don't know what to tell you. I know I don't. Not only that but I have yet to hear of someone who's been booted for excessive downloading - just roaming.

If i'm constantly streaming or watching a movie or tv show online, then the data xfer rate will be about the same with either connection, however; if i'm not actively using the computer, WMWifiRouter will use a considerable amount more of data...

You know what's funny?

When Sprint first launched 3G data service (back in the day) they actually did sell metered plans!!!
It wasnt very long though, until they went to unlimited.

Rumor is that the new Sprint plans will be launched in two tiers for data cards:

79.99/mo 5GB cap with a 1 year contract
59.99/mo 5GB cap with a 2 year contract

overage billed at 50 bucks a GB.

There is nothing legitimate about either option. If you don't have PAM, you can not use the data plan that you pay for on anything but the device itself. You're breaking the terms of service either way.

And this is why people just tether. These rates are ridiculous. That's even more than they charge for their WiMax right now. Why the hell is "unlimited" only worth $15/month if you are watching youtube on your phone but it's worth $60-80 to watch it on your laptop? Maybe if they just started doing $15 for 5GB like and $25 for unlimited? Even $30 or 35 wouldn't be too bad. But $80? That is nuts. I am lucky we have Xohm in my city. For unlimited no-contract service, it's $50/month to have home service plus one mobile device (at the moment, my laptop). Speed is comparable to DSL or cable depending on the signal strength.
