update errors are generally caused by aggressive software based firewall protection (READ the firewall prompts...), BuildOS being open (error during buildos update), and failure to provide Run as Admin rights under Vista (needed because UAC protects the contents of "Program files" ).

You sure shouldn't run more than one of updater or buildos and expect there to be no errors. There most definitely will be.

Is it like a new bios and operating system for a computer? I have the new sprint 3.35 rom on my phone and its been crap. the old 2.09 rom i had before i upgraded was ten million times better, so i really want to try this new rom. I was just hoping someone could explain to me step by step what to do, and tell me exactly whats happening when i do it, i'd really appreciate it (i'm a real newbie and reading everything here just gets me more confused). Also, what's an OEM (besides original equipment manufacturer), and after i do this it will be like the upgrade i did from sprint, right? so will active sync still work, or do i have to get some other kind of back-up program? One more thing, what's a BT, what's a kitchen, whats the difference between the kitchen version and the pre-packaged version, and i saw on another thread that someone said 5060 doesnt have the feature of 3.35 that i love the most: closing a program by hitting "x" (option found in task manager), is that true. I know i've asked a million questions, but all help will be greatly appreciated. I am really hating 3.35.
Can someone please help me out, the current condition of my phone is killing me. I'd really, really appreciate any help.

Again with the attacks? Why do you have to make this so difficult?
So then the answer is 160MB. Thank you, that really wasn't so hard, was it?

For the record, I'm here because I love the Mogul, it's the best mobile computer I've ever had. Contrary to popular belief, I like the kitchen project. I have some issues with it, but I have some issues with Word 2007, too, and I love that program. No software is perfect. I'm not at all opposed to what the ROM team produces.

What I am opposed to is the ROM team's holier-than-thou, superior, arrogant attitude.

Let me explain where I'm coming from. I've spent 18 years in IT, doing just about every job in the field. I've been a developer. I've also been tech support, and prefer that to development. I like to help people. And looking at this from a support perspective, members of the ROM team seem actively hostile to users who don't meet their geek cred standards. They are programmers making a program for programmers, not for regular people, and they come across as thinking they're too good to explain how the kitchen works, why certain features are not negotiable or really anything at all about the project.

Basically, the ROM team acts like the "Soup Nazi" on Seinfeld. Take what they give you the way they give it to you, ask no questions, just bow and grovel at their feet and be grateful you get anything at all. Sorry, but that's a horrible attitude for a developer to have, even one making freeware. I understand the donations they freely accept (thus making this a commercial product, with reasonable expectations of professional support) probably only cover hosting costs and maybe a beer once in a while. But I think we'd all be better off if they dropped the attitude and treated everyone with dignity and respect. Saying "if you don't like the login requirement, feel free to leave it blank" knowing full well that means that the kitchen won't work at all, is arrogant and petty. This "leave it us, you couldn't possibly know what you're doing" attitude goes from annoying to comical when they "officially" release the 5060 kitchen with typos and bugs after browbeating everyone for a week who dared to use the "unsupported" basekit.

I appreciate the kitchen. I use it. I hope it will support the US version of the Touch Dual soon after that device is released. But the kitchen team are not gods, and I will not treat them as such. They're developers, regular people. They're no better than the rest of us, and it ticks me off to see them treat people so badly and expect unquestioning devotion in return.

Two issues I've noticed using the No2Chem 5060 build.

1. Every time I soft reset I get an annoying beep just after the Today Screen appears. Any way to stop this?

2. HTC Task manager installs even though I don't have it checked. Any body else notice this?

Not sure on Tauto. I use it all the time. Have you edited the config.txt at all? I know it hangs sometimes if you are using it to launch an app or other stuff.
Didn't work for some reason. Here's a portion of my personal OEM rgu. Any ideas what I did wrong?

1. This has popped up on various no2 basekits. There's a post somewhere on replacing that "default" sound with silence to stop it. Doesn't bother me much, personally.

2. I noticed this on 5054 also.

1. I have the same noise.. just thought I bumped something though.

2. Not sure what this looks like. If its the crappy task manager in the System tab - then yes, I've noticed it.

Unfortunately, I doubt there are many on this board that feel the same way you do. You may "feel" this way but in reality you really sound like anungrateful, "look at my credentials" (who cares if you were in IT for 17 years...), "everything centers around me"... and if it doesn't then you are a nazi...

I don't see any "holier than thou" attitude from the kitchen team. They busted their butts getting it out.. so I would give them more than enough slack. Sure, they may get a bit testy when they get asked inane questions... over and over again...
You are just being ungrateful and unselfish. Again, if you don't like it (and you obviously don't) PLEASE, PLEASE come up with your own kitchen the way you like it.

Ungrateful and selfish? I don't give a flying rat's @$$, personally. I'll use whatever tools are available, meaning I'll use the kitchen if I find it the best tool for the job, but I was just as happy using DCD's kitchen from xda-devs.

I mention my IT experience only so people realize my opinion is informed by years of software development, testing and support. I know what I'm talking about. If that doesn't impress you, I don't really care. I'm not trying to impress.

I've been trying to help. But it's become clear that the geeks don't appreciate me standing up for the n00bs. I thought by pointing out the arrogance and poor customer service of the ROM team that I might be able to get them to improve, but they have too many sycophants here willing to shoot the messenger. If you really want arrogance and hypocrisy, who am I to stand in your way? I'll go back to lurking, using the kitchen and donating exactly what I think the customer service I'm getting is worth...
