I don't mean to seem ungrateful. The kitchen, what I've seen of it, looks dandy. I appreciate the work everyone involved put into this. But the requirement that we should log in strikes me as not only an invasion of privacy, a needless hindrance to those with corporate PCs, but as exactly the kind of "gee whiz" feature that software engineers (I know, I used to be one) put in without thinking that it will be problem because they don't stop and realize that not everyone is just like them. I'm sure this requirement was never an issue in testing, because, after all, who doesn't have a free and open connection to the internet at all times? It probably never occurred to the developers that some people don't.

Yes, I could wait until I get home. Except that I frankly have more important things to do there. I have the time here at the office between my official duties. But I can't use it here.

So please, explain why. Why is logging in necessary to cook and build a ROM?
It's not. Feel free to use any of the myriad methods that don't require it.

Okay, if you want to play word games, I'll be more specific. Why is logging in over the internet necessary to use this kitchen?

I am still unable to log in behind my corporate proxy.

I'm using the most recent ppc-buildos.exe available via ppckitchen.org/downloads (since I can't run the updater) and it most certainly does not work.

Re: Titan Kitchen CE OS 5.2.19199 (Build 19199.1.0.0)

I have to second the question about the login requirement.

I am also behind a coporate firewall and cannot connect. But I can wait until I get home to do my cooking.

But I am curious about the requirement as well.

Was the requirement to login using your PPCGeeks id a way of limiting the usage to folks who are registered on PPCGeeks? I'm not critical, just curious. Especially since it wants my name and my password.

Now I gave it both of those because; quite frankly, I trust and respect your program (and I am directly speaking to GGURUUSA) based off your reputation and your history here.

But you have to admit, in today's world it shouldn't be considered rude for me to ask you why you want my name and password and what you do with it.

If the answer is just that you pass it to PPCGeeks authentication system to verify I have a valid account; then that is fine. But I really would like to know why you need it.

Please don't be upset or take the question wrong - unlike some others I am not trying to challenge anyone or be unreasonable. I would just like the same kind of privacy disclosure that I get from everyone else I give my password to (and yes; I am one of those poor dumb folks who use the same password in more places than I should).

Thanks!

You don't need to put in your PPC geeks information. I asked the very same question. You can put anything in the userID/pass fields as long as you remember what you put in.

Yes. I just found that out. But if it will take anything that I type in; then it's kinda pointless from my end. Which is fine for me, and I no longer have to worry about it.

But why bother to remember what I put in? I could just make soemthing else up the next time I run it. Or does my using the same info each time assist PPCKITCHEN.ORG in some way?

Re: Titan Kitchen CE OS 5.2.19199 (Build 19199.1.0.0)

I may have just made my whole question pointless.

I just logged in to the kitchen with a totally fictious name and password. And it went right in. So it appears that the kitchen doesn't actually do anything with whatever I type in.

However, should I create a new name and password for it and use that all the time? Will that make it easier for you to troubleshoot things?

See, if you can use anything, then requiring it at all is just a pointless affront to those behind corporate proxies. All in the name of a gee whiz feature that makes the system look more sophisticated than it really is.
