Kimberly:

I am not a newbie and have flashed my ROM before and I am waiting for the official release. I highly suggest anyone not 100% confortable with flashing ROMs do the same. Remember, this is a beta version of a leaked ROM. TYhere are likely to be bugs, and more importantly, likely to be changes when the official ROM comes out, meaning you will simply have to reflash all over again.

I do not begrudge those people who want to futz around with the leaked ROM and play with it, but unless cooking ROMs and playing with your phone's programming is your idea of fun, I would recommend just waiting.

The fact that this ROM even exists means that Verizon is working on getting it public, and the fact that it is now leaked simply means it is likely to come out officially sooner than before (think of it as if there are now hundreds more beta testers!).

Let the people who enjoy tinkering be your and my guinea pigs. I can live without GPS on my Google Maps for another month or two.

Re: Beta rom

quick question, and to be honest, im not even sure if it matters.

How do I get my phone to show the "As the modem through USB" setting in the connections menu? I have loaded the appropriate driver on my computer but nothing shows under my usb connections except ActiveSync and Mass storage>storage card/my storage.

So, how do I do this and do I even NEED to do this....thanks!

Re: Beta rom

If you are flashing with the UMDL, you do not need to set it as a modem.

Re: Beta rom

perfect, I think im prepared to move forward.

Kinda funny, I had made up my mind that I was gonna try the new rom (first smart phone, first winmo, first time on a pc in 8 years)

Then i figured I should just wait until the official comes out. Even tho i am very noob to this thing, i have gone crazy on this phone and tweaked it out and i am LOVING it. But I thought this might be more than I should bite off. Plus, i dont NEED gps, i can get around the city i live in fine.

Then, i just went to lunch and a friend called and wanted me to meet him for lunch. Guess what, I didnt know how to get to where he was...

You know what that means....

TIME TO TAKE THE PLUNGE.

Thanks for everyones hard work, help and input! Very kool to see everyones involvement and willingness to help!

Re: Beta rom

I managed to do it last night, and it could not have gone smoother!! I don't remember the official upgrades on my older devices being that fast and easy (once you learn all the tricks the CORRECT way)!!!! All is working great, I have GPS (takes a while, but I expected that), and no problems so far!!!

P.S. For all interested, I restored from an SPB backup file I did right before I upgraded the ROM, and everything works great, no problems at all that I have found!!! To be fair, I may be missing out on a tweak or two that I just don't know where to find it, but I have everything on my Omnia I had before this working + GPS!!! A win in my book!!!

Actually, I don't see the new notes, dice, or keyboard mentioned in earlier posts, but as I mentioned...even if they were there and lost in the restore (not sure how that could happen seeing as they are in the ROM and it was an upgrade 'safe' restore), I am still happy!!!

Thanks guys!!

Re: Beta rom

I updated to the new ROM, and pretty much spent my workday re-installing all of my apps, doing my reg edits to get the phone right back to where it was beforehand.

I am definitely pleased with having GPS, one of those things that really REALLY bugged me. The perfomance increase is definitely there, and that was before upgrading to the 3.5 .NET framework.

I will definitely donate for this upgrade, and i urge any and all of you to as well....

Re: Beta rom

Anybody else having ActiveSync problems? I am.

On XP, I have tried the old partnership, and tried deleting it. I have messed with USB settings under Settings, System, and USB under Connections, unchecked the advanced network box, no joy.

What happens is that it starts under a 6700 partnership, sees the 910 device, but the instant it changes to the correct name, it fails. Troubleshooter finds no issues. It then allows me to explore as a Guest. So it connects, but won't sync. I have rebooted everything twice.

Also, although I did a complete SPB backup restore, in ROM upgrade mode, overwrite files box UNchecked (logic being that I don't want to overwrite new ROM files) I did not get any of my PIM calendar or contacts info back. So I thought, no worries AS will get me back in a hurry, but...

Nothing so far.

Re: Beta rom

OK. Went back and did an SPB Backup restore again, CHECKed the box to overwrite files, and did a Custom restore, not full, but checked System, PIM (without email, cause nothing there right now) and got all the PIM data back after reset.

Also, AS now WORKS, and the new partnership set up and synced fine.

Not sure why the "overwrite files" should make that kind of a difference, and not sure if I have lost anything important from the new ROM by overwriting it. But I think the "ROM update" mode is supposed to protect that.
