Re: Beta rom

One thing to keep in mind is that when the instructions say "turn the phone off" it means to HOLD the power button until the Verizon splash screen comes up and the phone plays the "shutdown" sound. to turn it back on, HOLD the power button until the Splash screen comes back up.

Believe it or not, I had Never totally powered off my phone like this. I always just keep it in standby, or Hit the soft reset button with the stylus if I want to reboot.

I remember reading about that in the manual, but since I never did it, when the instructions said "turn it off" I just pushed the power button momentarily and turned off the display. Needless to say. It didn't work. Took me about 1 hour to figure out what I was doing wrong.

Yes, but without the VZAccess. The PC/Phone recognized and installed properly it appeared. Can't remember now where I read about that setting for the USB in the phone, but I will go back and try the other way. It got pretty late last night, so not sure if I tried that.

Maybe I did mix methods, as I don't know what the PST method is (nice use of the term medley, too.)

This occurred to me also, and I tried it completely off, but perhaps I had not gotten the driver properly installed at that time.

Can others confirm that "OFF" is completely off, not in suspend? That would surely explain why the device kept tuning back "on" when I plugged in.

Re: Beta rom

OK, I went over to Modaco and started to read. I read that if you don't do it perfect, you will brick your phone. I am such a noob, and now I am nervous. Is it something, I should just opt not to do?

Re: Beta rom

OK, Working now!! I did it wrong several times, but no brick! Thanks, sofladavid!

1. Power off means OFF, not suspend. Hold power button.
2. Setting the Omnia to "As the modem through USB" is unnecessary, if not problematic.
3. The driver needs to completely install, such that when connected to the Omnia for the first time, the PC displays "new hardware found" and "software installed" messages. (after disabling USB in Activesync.)

When I tried the fully OFF method last night, I had not completely installed the driver yet (no messages). After the driver was properly installed, I never went back and tried fully OFF again.

Or possibly, the "modem through USB" setting was not the right one. At least, the update worked after Data Connection was set back to "Internal Data Call".

There is a message which pops up when you select Data Connection in SETTINGS that says "to use VZAccess Manager, you should select "As the modem through USB/Bluetooth." Don't let that confuse you as I did. It is either wrong or unnecessary.

Now to get back to playing.
