Yes, I'm amazed at their patience too!

I'm also amazed that this comment didn't come sooner or in more harsh terms. I've seen the angry, red-faced rantings of people who can't stand people like me. Those people do not have the temperament to be teachers. Teaching can be fundamentally frustrating at times and is not always a rational, linear process when you are dealing with humans and their emotions. Teaching also take empathy and empathy can only exist if one can remember the frustration of their own learning curve.

Have I searched. Hell yes, I've searched. I've also read through other forums - extensively. One thread I read through was 120 pages long and I never did get a good answer. If I can get the attention of a few good people and ask questions on my own terms, I can learn a heck of a lot faster
.
Why have people put up with me? Perhaps because I'm genuine, I really am trying, I'm making good progress. Perhaps it is because they feel sorry for me. For many, I suspect it is a challenge. In other forums on different topics I have gone from completely useless to Guru status - and now often spending a great deal of time helping others partly because it is a challenge.

It is OK to help others in this format. Nobody is hurt by it - and often the people doing the teaching end up learning more than the student. After all, we teach what we want to learn.

A different device? Perhaps you didn't read that part of the thread. I'm now committed to this one, warts and all. I trust the experience and opinion of others in this forum and through them have determined this phone will work very well for me in the long run....but there is a learning curve I must go through. So be it.

Yep! Earlier I mentioned I had found this out by watching a Youtube video of European Omnia. Once I saw the satellite signal strength bars I knew it was a real GPS.
Major check mark in the "Cool" column!

I admit at first I was like ... this guy should just give up...lol...but I figured if you had the patience to read and try to get accustomed to the Omnia I should at least help if I can...I'm no guru but I know WinMo well enough to help out...Like anything in this world WinMo has its drawback, and phone manufacturers have to build their products around those problems, even the Mighty Iphone has design flaws and missing functions that cannot be easily added or hacked like a WinMo phone...So Cmass as long as u keep the Omnia I'm with you learning and teaching (when I can) and waiting for the upgrades and support that I know will be coming soon...

Re: A challenge to all gurus: Help me keep my phone!

OK, so, leaving the topic of my ignorance frustrating people, I have finally figured out how the registry editor works. It was simply a few details of the workings of the program I was not seeing. I did not have some critical views enabled.

Nonetheless, the hacks I'm doing do not seem to be "taking". In this example I changed the value of the vertical and horizontal scroll bars from 13 to 9 as suggested - but I see no difference. I did a soft reset and then checked to make sure the values in the registry had been saved - and they indeed had been - so I'm not sure why the changed values are not changing anything.

Yes, I searched. I have found a couple of people who have mentioned this before in some other forums but nothing that helps me as of yet. Ironically, one thread was on Howard Forums with Adrynalyne! He helped several people make registry changes that allowed for replacement of the Verizon logo GIF upon start up - very cool!

Don't decrease those values, you make the bars smaller. You should increase from like 13 to 20.

20 is quite nice.

Yes, this makes intuitive sense which is why it is confusing that the person who wrote that said to go from 13 to 9.
Nonetheless, no matter what value I put in there, I see no changes after soft restarts. I check the values after each start to make sure they are staying put and they are...

Will do....in a few hours.
I have to actually use this thing as a phone for a while. We are experiencing record flooding. I just found out my wife is stranded at work due to a mudslide...and now the power if flickering here at home..Oh well, if the Internet goes out at least I have my Omnia!!
