A good friend of my has one and I did that for him because he won one in some drawing at a company picnic. Its not the 3gs, its the version prior to that one, so I wont speak to much on the latest release, but I used his iphone when I dropped my phone down the stairs moving huge items to move to a new place and it hit the pavement 4 stories down after hitting many steps down, and everyone talks about its browser being superior, which is opinion, not a fact, I don't like pinching in, zooming too much, I can barely stand it on opera, hated it overly done on safari. Plus the browser is way too slow for me and doesnt support flash. I also couldnt stand the minscule sound from the speaker, which is easily fixed on my pro, I can play music and hear it alright or my fav radio talk show while i await a new headset in the mail, on the iphone, its not as easy a fix, that phone is too locked done, works on a closed source kernel, and you have to jailbreak it to do anything real with it, and apple is trying to make that operation illegal. For winmo, oh i hate the stock rom, so get another one, your statement is false. this is simple, a phone is a phone is a phone. What works for some, doesnt for others, I like funcyionality, others like fart apps and flashiness, its all what you like and what you need to get done, that simple, and who cares.

Sorry for the long rant
Jailbreaking is more akin to unlocking a WM phone to run unsigned code than it is a ROM flash. Though most chefs include different software in their flashes, the main driving force behind ROM development is finding a zippier experience and or improved compatibility with various software(sneaking in new features not released for that particular model doesn't really apply to the iPhone) . Speed and compatibility are generally not a issue with a stock iPhone. The same cannot be said for a TP, stock or otherwise. As for getting another ROM? I'm well past a dozen for the TP and probably flashed my Mogul over 50 times. The iphone isn't the end all be all of phones, but I'm surprised that anyone who used one extensively wouldn't see it's browser as superior to anything in the WM world. Forget multitouch, it's significantly faster and works properly with more sites than any WM browser I've tried (IE, Opera 8.x/9.x/mini, Skyfire, Iris, UCWEB, Fennec). The screen size alone makes it a better experience. About the only thing missing is flash support which isn't entirely important to me. Maybe there was an issue with the iPhone you used, because ever one I've used is much louder than the TP w/any audiopara fix around. HTC is famous for making quiet phones with inadequate ringer and speaker phone volume. That being said, the iPhone's walled garden is one of the things ( along with at&t) that might keep me from ever getting one. The iPhone is great multimedia centric computer with a lousy phone added on ( possibly due to at&t's service?). The TP (at least the CDMA models) is a decent phone addled by a 10 yr old OS running on modern hardware. I wouldn't say the iPhone is the right choice for me, but if I have to answer which device is better at its given tasks? The iPhone blows the TP away!

Well I would argue the loudness of the two. The guy Ispoke with last night pulled up the same youtube vid that I had and you could barely hear his with his volume all the wya up. He worked for Apple, so I assume he had a 'great iphone'

I hate crapple period. Steve Jobs is a pompus a** and loves to overcharge the unknowing and shiney happy people with glitter coated sugar puffs. I will never buy an iphone, ipod, mac, and I always, whenever possible, avoid using quiktime and anything crapple related. Everytime I have used thier products, it has left a sour taste in my mouth! Please dont compare skyfire speed with safari's speed. I cant stand skyfire on the tp, but the one thing skyfire does have on safari is the speed, it is a server side browser. But anyhoo, I can agree with some of what you say, but in the end its just preference, for I need to get done, I prefer winmo, wish symbian was more popular in the states. Anyways, I liked using that iphone for some things, but not others, plus it lacked on a few things I could with winmo, still waiting to see if winmo 7 will be any different or if symbian starts being sold more in the U.S. or atleast through my carrier, but doubt doubt it. So, in the meantime I like my tp.

Re: iPhone users

Anytime anyone runs there mouth about how great the iphone is, I always tell them it's the idiot proof phone. Screw the onscreen keyboard - that alone makes it terrible. The only thing I wish that is cool about the iphone is the apstore. Everything else sucks. Yes I know there is plenty of aps for wm, but it would be nice to click a button and have them come up.

I agree about them just coming up.
but then one company would control all of them.
:/
I'll take my freedom of choice over that convenience.
but the only thing I want from the iphone is the screen.
I want the glass screen.
I'm tired of plastic scratch on everything screens.
it's ridiculous.
not that hard to change.
and I'm sure everyone would love not having to buy screen protectors all the time.

its an idiot proof phone because it needs to be. thats the reason why the o/s is pretty stable and so fast. it can provide a great UI and user experience, and theres nothing that the user can do to really make it bog down (apart from downloading apps on the app store, but how is the consumer supposed to know if the app has mem leaks?).

however customizable winmo is, can be a blessing and a curse. onscreen keyboard? thats user preference. windows mobile, apple, android, and blackberry are all "terrible" then, at least the phones that have an onscreen keyboard, right? like the blackberry storm, tmobile G2, HTC Touch Diamond/Diamond2, HTC Hero, etc, and not to mention the countless number of touchscreen only phones from samsung, lg and each respective carrier, etc.

how many consumers would prefer to just sit there and customize each single aspect of the phone, vs the people who would rather forego all that and just have a great experience out of the box and dont really need to mess with anything because it just works? thats probably what drew most peoples' attention to the iphone. its fast, easy to use/operate, and it freaking just works. for the people using it, it is literally a one touch swipe/press to whatever you need.

you could argue that the touch pro has a removable battery, physical keyboard, microSD, LED flash, while apple takes ages to get on with features themselves (look how long it took to get a video camera? but its so nice to use/edit video now compared to most phones, not to mention the resolution is WAY better and its so easy to upload). but thats the thing, most of the people i know quickly got over the lack of major features (again, like i said, somewhat resolved with the 3.0 software update) because they were too impressed with how the iphone is with everything else.

while i love my iphone, i still like windows mobile. its just that windows mobile needs to SERIOUSLY step it up, or else people will look elsewhere for their o/s of choice.

Everyone has there own opinion...I personally like my iPod Touch, would never ever buy an iPhone. I think they don't get bogged down as you say, because they only do one thing at a time. And this whole stable OS and all that, like I said before, I have played with one and had it freezing up like no ones business...It wasn't the 3gS, just a 3G, but still, it wasn't that amazing. Pretty much anyone here could have got on an iPhone if they so wanted, at least for what our phones cost the iPhone was an easy possibilty, but we chose differently for a reason....To each there own, I don't think anyone is going to change there mind or see the others argument valid either way LOL
