Touch Pro VS Treo 800w

Well sprint pawned me off to Insurion to get a touch pro but they are standing firm on not getting me one. So they sent me 3 moguls, all of which had the white dot on the bottom of the screen, the last call I made the lady said she couldn't get me a pro since those are reserved for people who actually have pros and need replacements (understandable).

I got the 800w in today and its a nice phone but I kind of miss my big honkin screen

It is quick as hell.

My question is, should I settle with the 800w for a while till I get out of contract (2 months) and buy a new phone (maybe something better will be out) or should I go father and try to get a pro from SPRINT not insurion?

Im more than a bit pissed about this whole situation. I feel Sprint is way to quick to pawn you off to insurion instead of actually helping you.

I was in a similar situation, and pushed for the pro and got it for little over $30.

Talk them into sending you a new boxed mogul. They did this for me and charged the whole price to my account, then credited it all back but $1. No idea why $1. I think they have to technically sell you the phone to get you a new replacement? When you get the new boxed mogul in your hands, don't open it. Call sprint and talk calmly to retentions and explain your situation. Being very nice got me a long way. Tell them you have a new boxed mogul and you would be more than willing to pay the difference in price for the TP, shipping, and activation fee. I offered this to show I wasn't looking for a complete handout. Worked like a charm.

Hope that helps.

My lady had a Treo 800w for a few weeks while we arranged for a TP for her. Like you said, it's a quick little phone with a lot of nice features and a much better speakerphone. The resolution is pretty good on it; if I understood right, you had a Mogul, which has a larger physical screen, but at 320x240 resolution. The 800w screen is smaller in size but 320x320. So the difference might not be as noticeable as you think, if your eyesight is sharp... In fact you'll find you can fit the same size web page easily, with a little more. But it's certainly no match for the TP's gorgeous 640x480.

If you do think you'd like to try taking it up with Sprint ecare, I imagine you could get a discount on a TP -- but not a free one. I've had luck getting up to $200 knocked off, if you're a loyal customer and are willing to resign on an everything plan..

So the question you might be faced with: are 2 months and not having to haggle worth the savings over just buying a new pro at upgrade price? See how good of a deal you can get now, vs. the deal in the near future, and write out some numbers for yourself.

I don't think we'll see much in the way of exciting new products in the next 2 months; I feel like the next releases will come in May or so. So the TP will be the top of the line for a little while.

That stinks. I know of at least one other person who did this and it worked great. That was about 3 weeks ago. I may have gotten very lucky.

The greatest part about it was that I got to keep my original mogul. (does have the white spot, but I think nearly all of them do with time)

You might keep pushing, I have found it all depends on the rep. you end up talking to. I got shut down many times, but was just persistent.

Who knows though, they may have been told to stop doing this due to the backorder on the TPs?

Re: Touch Pro VS Treo 800w

oh my god.. you have terrible luck with phones.

you should contact ecare, and say that you want to get the touch pro, and explain the situation... tell them that you're sick of this, and you're contemplating canceling your account because this is just insane. you're 2 months away from your rebate, they can give you the discount now. ask them for that, and buy the touch pro. you have a new phone that you can sell for the price of the rebated touch pro. 2 months from now, no new phones will be out. at least no pda's. or switch to verizon and get the beautiful omnia lol

Re: Touch Pro VS Treo 800w

Sprint has given me the big FU too many times, I think im going to have to go through asurion and demand a touch pro, I was willing to downgrade to a treo (screen wise) to get a phone quick but now its going to be more time without a phone.

God damnit, I must have done something really bad this year to be having such a ****ty one.

Re: Touch Pro VS Treo 800w

No, I have terrible luck with them!

First Mogul was an assisted suicide when I updated the ROM for GPS. Burned up in two months.

The next 8 were Mogul refurbs from hell.

The manager of the Sprint Service center even had me try the Palm 800W...problem: no voice dialing with volume enough for me to hear it and it to hear me. Palm acknowledged the issue but stated that they had decided not to pursue it.

I did get one new Mogul, but then they stopped paying for towers in this area and no more service.

Now I am in the Communist Lockdown Company.

I bought the Storm two Saturdays ago. Cost of phone ownereship for that miserable piece of plastic and electrons: about 30 hours trying to get it to work only to find out that it was a beta. No other explanation for that much going wrong all the time. The camera either has a cataract, or it just sucks. http://supportforums.blackberry.com/....id=2686#M2686

Now I have the Touch Pro, I like it, but the screen size is small for my aging eyeballs, and I can't even put a damn theme on it. I have tried everything...I can't even change the weather to a city near me in TF3D as there are no cities near me in the database.

We all know about the GPS...I can't even get the Navigator to hook up to my contacts and instead have to copy the info to paper only to re-input it into the Navigator.

That is the highest level of stupid. Does VZ know that as a business phone user I really need the technologies to work together? And not waste valuable time doing things TWICE? DUH?

Rant finished.
