Re: Anyone have an iPhone or come from one?
*sigh* Let me see if I can break this down a bit better. Regardless of how you got the phone, you have claimed that having both is the best option, which is not feasible for a lot of people. The OP is asking for a comparison, likely because it is not feasible for him to have both. You claim to have superior knowledge based on your willingness to use both, and your claim that you are not biased. Regardless what others have said, this supposedly puts in you in a better position to provide a list of strengths and weaknesses of both platforms.
Disregard everything that has come before, you can be of great help now by giving the OP exactly what he asked for. An unbiased comparison of both platforms. |

Re: Anyone have an iPhone or come from one?
I figured I'd add my 2 cents into this discussion, as it seems like everyone is so hardcore for their specific device.
I had the original iphone (jailbroken) and an iphone 3g (didn't bother to jailbreak it for a bunch of reasons) and then decided to move over to a touch pro for a number of reasons. I would say the biggest are the hardware keyboard, copy/paste, multimedia messaging, simple custom ringtone use, flexibility right out of the box. And for those of you who say the iphone can do anything that the touch pro (or any windows mobile device) can do, I'd say you're probably right in assuming that, but you also don't mention the loss of stability once you start adding unsupported apps through Installer/Cydia. My iphone would crash multiple times a day once I finally got all the apps I wanted (needed?) on it, and occasionally even holding down the home/power keys wouldn't work to reset the phone. There're occasions where I've had to wait for the battery to go dead in order to fix problems with any app that I'd installed. I really like the iphone, I think it's a great device, but it definitely caters to a certain type of user (not me). And, to be honest, it took a giant crack in the screen and the thought of replacing the phone at the full unsubsidized price that made me start to consider what else is out there... but I'm glad I did. EDIT : Ok, I'll add the pros of the iphone - Integrates very well with mobileme (.mac) and mac os X the touch screen is unrivaled Very stable if you don't screw around with it too much The interface is simple and intuitive Last edited by rastataoist; 11-20-2008 at 05:05 PM. |

Re: Anyone have an iPhone or come from one?
Not to take this thread too far off course, but this doesn't worry me. Everyone I know who used to be with a now-nonexistent carrier with a special plan got their plan grandfathered in to whoever bought them out. Not that Sprint are a sure thing for getting bought out anyway. No AT&T for this boy.

Geez Jethro Static... someone must have hit a nerve with you
I am curious what you have to say about the list. Not because I want to argue or something, but you sound like a very proud multi device user. I would appreciate a list too! |

I had to give thanks because this made me laugh. Dude, reading your posts is like banging my head against the wall. Do you see how everyone else conveys their message? You remind me of that Sacha Cohen character Ali G LOL |

Re: Anyone have an iPhone or come from one?
The best thing might be to buy the iphone and try for 30 days and return if you don't want it. At the end of 30 days, if you like it, you can port the number from Sprint.
Worst case, you pay extra cell bill for a month. |
